We stopped for a break while traveling the interstate, planning to hike the short trail near the headquarters. Everywhere you look is just old machinery and other junk. The trail was so overgrown you couldn't even access the wildlife viewing area. Constant semi traffic coming and going. Seems like no maintenance has been performed in years. Was far from an enjoyable visit.

We decided to go off our vacation path & visit this National Wildlife Refuge; however, we really didn’t see much waterfowl or any wildlife as the Refuge is very dry. All the ponds were dried up, unfortunately. Restrooms were at the start of it. I bet with a lot more moisture, it would be pretty cool.

Camas National Wildlife Refuge is worth your time and effort. There are tons of birds of all different types to take pictures. If you're a bird photographer then this is the place to go for you.

We were driving by and decided to stop in last minute. We were greeted by the ranger there that was super helpful and knowledgeable. He told us that if we took one of the auto tours we would probably see shore birds but not much else because it was so dry. He was right. Which was good for us either way. We did the longer tour. The road was well maintained dirt road. The only restroom was before you begin the tour so do that first. I will go back in hopes of seeing other animals

We were driving nearby so even though it was summer (late July) we decided to give it a try. First off, do not trust your GPS - look for and follow the signs on the road. There are several ponds on the refuge and in some areas, the roads are very close to the ponds; however, the vegetation between the road and the ponds is not always cleared. There were several times when we could hear waterfowl but there was no way to even see the pond. In other areas, the vegetation is clear (or partially cleared) so we could at least see the water and the waterfowl that was there. Although this is primarily a rest stop during migration, there were some waterfowl with young. We saw several white-faced Ibis and a few red-tail hawks. It was still a worthwhile visit but if you have a choice, plan your visit to coincide with the migration.
