tripadvisorI returned to Muscle Beach after a decade and found it surprisingly quiet this time around. While it was nice to enjoy the space without the usual crowds, there was an air of sadness in the absence of the vibrant energy I remembered. The gym, known for its iconic outdoor workouts, was mostly empty, which was a letdown.I wouldn't recommend staying late into the night, as it doesn't feel particularly safe once darkness falls. However, during the daytime, it's a great spot for a leisurely walk and enjoying a beer while soaking up the sun. Overall, while the tranquility has its perks, I miss the lively spirit that once defined Muscle Beach.
MoreWe walked from the original location close to Santa Monica Pier to the new Muscle Beach spot in Venice - it's a beautiful walk, about 6km.
MoreIt is the gymnasts and athletes part of Venice Beach to practice and show off. Generally, Venice Beach is quite a vibrant and cheerful place to visit.
MoreThis was a 5-star spot for me because of the history here and my interest in the golden era of body building. The sign is still here, right by the Santa Monica Pier, but there is no gym equipment. A few people were still working out in the area doing body weight exercises. I took my shoes off and walked out onto the sand where this hallowed training area used to exist. It was a special place to me. Parking was difficult and cost me $28 for a very short time there. If you are interested in it as I was, then it is worth the price.
MoreWe walked through the original Muscle Beach in Santa Monica on the way to the pier. Lots of people still working out there and our son got to try out some of the apparatus. Fun to people watch. We parked in the area for $15, mostly to go walk on the pier.
