House on the Rock Building ·$$

Created by Alex Jordan, the House on the Rock Resort is a spectacular building full of quirky architecture that was initially intended to be a weekend retreat. Over time it gained popularity with the locals and tourists who would drop in to admire the art and design of the various rooms. The decors consists of ceramics, wax statues and odd furniture in bright colors. The rooms are set in a maze-like pattern through which visitors have to find a way out. What is more impressive is that the entire house is built out of the rock on which it sits. The House on the Rock is a wonderful attraction and worth visiting for a memorable adventure.

Im only giving a 5 star review because more stars aren't available! Visited yesterday with my mother and it was like stepping into a whole different world for awhile. Anyone who doesn't enjoy this place obviously lacks whimsical imagination. Every detail played the part and it was fascinating! The staff was also great and the cost of admission very reasonable and worth every penny. Unique would be an understatement! Will definitely be coming back..

Great place! I was living in Iowa and my husband & I drove to House on the Rock. You can take 2 days to get through. It had rooms & items that went back in the past. It was like Back to the Future. Go and it be one trip you'd definitely remember. Flowers outside, inside places to stop & eat, but it's been years so things might have changed. You won't be disappointed!

This place was so strange and I loved it! Huge antique collections of anything and everything - Dolls, lighters, plates, model cars - even real cars- trains, buggies , newspaper articles, military veterans discharge papers, tools from different professions such as dentists, eye, barber, carousel with every creature, crowns from royalty, weapons …. And there were so many displays that came to life when someone added a purchased token such as musical instruments - awesome and unique! I loved the set up of themed sections! Wished I could have arrived earlier - two hours was not enough time.

I had a little tiny parrot contained completely in backpack. There was no way she could have caused a problem for anyone. No mess. No damage. Not even an allergy risk for anyone because she is completely contained. The staff was friendly to is and no one said anything until after an hour, when one woman decides she has issues that day. She was incredibly rude. She said she was the manager, but wouldn't give her name. We had traveled 6 hours with a family of 7. This was the one time we were able to get together this year. The attitude of that one woman was atrocious. In all honesty, I didn't mind waiting on the car because the place is not handicap accessible as advertised. There are many places that anyone with any kind of mobility issues couldn't navigate And it's not worth the 40 dollar ticket. It's mostly an overwhelming amount of clutter one guy collected on his life Some interesting clutter, but just a lot of stuff.

We had an hour and did the highlight tour. Needed 3 hours. At every turn we said Wow! At every turn of our head, we said Wow. It is quite indescribable, A collection of items extraordinaire.
