tripadvisorOnce is disrepair, it is faithfully restore. Kitchen with old iron stove a wonder, wash room with all the washday tubs an eye opener, parlor with carved settees is a look back in time nursery with all the things an 1890's baby would need. Great spot for out of towners!
MoreGuided tours of history & surrounding terrain, watershed .Hiking, events, high tea and farmer market.
MoreThe Sikes adobe is a restored house built around 1880. A couple with 6 children built a one room adobe house where they lived for 4 years while farming. They eventually added on to the adobe structure making more room for the family. The house sat vacant from around 1970 to 2000 until the county decided to fix it up. It is quite interesting to walk around and imagine what life was like in the 1800's. But the freeway is so close that it is difficult to tune out the traffic noise. There is a nice dirt trail nearby for biking or walking. The farmers' market on Sundays was nothing special when we were there, but maybe gets more vendors as the season goes on.
MoreHistory comes to life, walk around a home furnished with authentic time period pieces, down to the reproduction of the wallpaper patterns. Take a break for shopping in the mall across the street and appreciate the historic importance of the site.
MoreSikes Adobe provides a great opportunity for families to catch up with their California history. There are great interpretive and historical displays there. In addition, there are great trails that extend east and west in the valley - you can hike west along Lake Hodges (all the way to the coast) or east through San Pasqual Valley. There are trails of all skill levels, and are open to hiking, mountain biking and equestrians. The trails are great for trail running. See the San Dieguito River Park website for more trail info and maps.
