tripadvisorThe best single word to describe LF Garland is OVERRUN.It’s not a gym, it’s not a club, it’s a madhouse retirement old folks facility.Seriously, this place is swamped with the retired riding the Medicare Advantage Silver Sneaker Free Gym Membership plan.
MoreI have been a member for 8 Months. Here are the Pros:1) Gym is super clean. I see employees cleaning the equipment and structure almost daily. Very nice.2) Employees are well trained and genuinely nice.3) Variety of classes for all fitness levels4) Additional amenities like Rock Climbing wall, Pickleball and Basketball courts, cafeteria and hair salon make this place a one-stop place for self. Now the ugly.1) People are allowed to place towels, phones, or other personal items on multiple workout stations. I go to the gym at 4:30am, Monday through Friday and there are four people who take up 10 to 12 workout stations by doing what I described.2) You have to decide between personal safety or time to work out at Life Time Fitness. If you decide to move a towel from a workout station to workout you WILL have some roided up dude or an intitled woman threatening you for working out on at a station they will be using soon. I have gotten to the point that I carry mace just in case.3) Management is not responsive to any concerns whatsoever. I'm not sure what it takes to get their attention.4) Due to my job I work out at the Austin South location and the Rim location. When you use the Life Time Fitness app to get directions to the Austin South location you will be directed to the Austin Bat Hospital. That is correct, the Austin Bat Hospital. I have told no less than 10 people, including this morning (August 2,2024) at 4:45am at the Rim location and nothing has been done. The Austin Bat Hospital is in a dark neighborhood when arriving at 4:45am. If some young lady or older person is to follow the directions provided by the Life Time app they will be lost. This was reported months ago to Austin South and the Rim and NOTHING has happened. 5) Entering and Exiting the Rim location is terrible. There is only ONE WAY in or out. Additional entry/exit gates have been closed for some reason.6) Gym is almost unbearable after 7:00am. Too many people. Almost impossible to work out in a timely manner. FORGET SHOWING UP AROUND 5:00-7:00pm unless you want to wait a long time to work out. In closing,I would only recommend Life Time if you have time to wait and don't mind carrying mace to ward off the Roided up and entitled people
MoreI joined Lifetime Fitness in late 2021. For the first year, all I did was swim laps 6 days per week. That's it! The gentlemen at the entrance learned my name and welcomed me warmly each day. After a year, I added water aerobics twice a week. Six months later, I added strength class twice a week. I have made new friends, and, at times, stay to enjoy a free tea or coffee (for a certain age group) once a week in the cafe. The Arora instructors (geared for mature adults) are wonderful and seem to really care about their patrons. When I brought my adult son as my guest, he noticed how clean it was, with so many amenities. He refers to Lifetime as mom's resort club. He is quite jealous!
MoreI have been a member since this club opened. I am a 75 year old athlete. I train for serious endurance competition. This club has become nothing more than a Senior Rec Center. It is impossible to do anything even remotely resembling serious training here. Especially if you are a lap swimmer. If you are a serious athlete, go elsewhere.
MorePickleball open play hours(mornings and evenings) are a chaotic mess with kids all over the three courts.Kids refuse to leave the court after their game.I have complained numerous times to front desk but they seemed least interested, not helpful and have done nothing to resolve this issue.I am tired of playing numerous pickleball games everyday with 12year oldswho think they know how to play pickleball. On weekends open play i am stuck playing every game with 12year olds.Extremely frustrating experience! This location desperately needs twodedicated, pickleball staff managing the morning hours from 6am to 3pm and another evening staff from 3pm to midnight. This will avoid the open play chaotic mess and will enforce reserved play hours.Non-signature members continue to play after open play hours without reserving the courts nor paying the court fees. Its so not fair to folks who are actually paying the signature membership fee to reserve the pickleball courts.Early mornings(7-9am),evenings(7-11pm) and on weekends the main manager, assistant manager and concierge manager are not present in the club.Only front desk employees are present.During these hours non-signature members are playing without reserving the courts nor paying the court fees because front desk employees dont bother to check.Front desk employees need to proactively check who’s playing on the 3 courts during the hours mentioned.Similarly they need to resolve complaints/issues pertaining to kids.Since 6 months i am trying to get a hold of the main manager to talk about the existing pickleball issues but unable to do so.I am hoping Lifetime corporate management reads my review and steps in to make the necessary changes with respect to pickleball.
