Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Non-Profit Organization

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation operates the Discovery Campus (DC). The DC is an extraordinary collection of hands-on exhibits, gardens, and live animal ambassadors allowing visitors to taste nature. We are open to the public, but we primarily serve families with school-aged children who care about the environment, the watershed, and the local community, and we are stroller friendly. These families come to Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation for active ways to involve their kids in fun, hands-on, educational experiences that give them a sense of accomplishment. Most guests spend between half an hour to two hours exploring our offerings. We have a suggested $15 donation per group; members are complimentary.

Interesting experience @ the AHL today, but it will be our last (among others in our group). We've been to this location over 50x. We've spent hundreds on donations, food for the animals, merchandise and food - no problem, we were happy to do it every time. Today, insert Lisa Cannon-Rodman. Super arrogant, disrespectful, and condescending (judging from a few of the reviews - it's not her first rodeo being completely unfit for the role at a non-profit). Belittled the group because we decided not to give the $15 suggested donation today (we just came two weeks ago and paid for it - and again last month). We were going to buy a bunch of food and normally get something from the merch shop for the little ones but she demanded it was to be paid if we wanted the Lagoon to stay open in the future. She also made it clear if it closed, it's due to people like us. Wild commentary from this unhinged human. We found that comment incredibly interesting, especially given her public 990s showing her $175K salary there, the Gala they throw, and the fact there's only two employees paid on salary - it makes you wonder why is she compensated at such a level to receive such low praise from the community who she's in front of. Scary. Her comments turned heads. We opted out of not getting a membership, and a few of our friends are revoking theirs after hearing the response. Place is awesome - but if you run into Lisa Cannon-Rodman working the front desk, you better have that suggested donation. She doesn't take no for an answer.

We took our two granddaughters age 5 and 8 this morning (a Saturday). They had so much fun! They petted and fed the pig, walked around with the chickens and petted them, touched the tortoise, enjoyed the birds, bunny, guinea pig. A beautiful sunny day did not hurt! There was a birthday party for a little girl outside and we thought it was a great venue. A $15 fee per family is suggested which seemed a bargain. Lots of parking.

It’s a cute little place to spend a little bit of time. I took my kids when we were trying to kill some time one day. They have a number of animals you can touch if you ask. The kids loved looking at the tortoise outside. We did the nature trail out back too, but there wasn’t much to look at.

The most interesting thing for us was the Bee Hive. Normally I am afraid of bees, but I was calm standing next to the hive. We stood there and watched for at least 25 min.

Really well done center. We stopped at the center following a visit to the flower fields. The center is well put together and targets smaller grade-school age children. My boys are well into their teens and, while they looked around, it was a bit too young for them. Just be aware of the demographic target going in. My wife is a grde school educator and thought it was really great. Overall, it's well worth the stop if you're in the area. Figure on about a 90 minute visit, depending upon how much of a walk you'd like to include. The staff is really pleasant and the parking is plentiful. Views are terrific - make sure to get pictures! The center is at the intersection of Cannon Dr and Faraday Ave, which is signalized. Cannon has a high speed limit so watch for the center as it'll sneak up on you.
