tripadvisorI don’t know who took the photographs in the gallery- but they seemed to cover three themes: 1. Rusty disused billboards. 2. Landscapes with a flash of colour. 3. Mexican? Underground culture. None of these would have interested me before I saw the exhibition. After seeing the exhibition I would have preferred paintings of these subjects. The prices at c.$500 each seemed to be on the high side. I suspect on the second hand market they would achieve $75 each. I must comment on the beautiful soft carpet and the excellent lighting on stalks.
MoreThis exhibition is black and white photography of modern subject matter. Some of the shots are candid, some staged. There are a few portraits, but not the kind you would place over your mantel. It seems that the focus is less on the subject matter, and more on the photography technique and composure. In that sense, these stills are very interesting, and very well curated. This exhibit is free to the public by entering through the hotel doorway. It is definitely worth examining for photographers and artists.
MoreThis gallery uses the hallways connecting the Commonwealth Hotel and Eastern Standard restaurant. We're here only once a year but they seem to always have interesting photography on the walls. Also, they are just across the street from New England School of Photography that has high quality student photographs on display and is free to visit.
