The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion has great opera. Now, they repeat operas too much and if I have to hear someone singing Figaro again, I will need to be medicated. We have given up our Season Pass because of the repeats, but now and again they have a new and very special opera. We just saw Akhnaten there and it was magical. It had a huge and so talented cast and it was perfect. The music was scored by Philip Glass and the BBC conductor did this one and she was amazing. It is a little pricy for good seats and I wish they had some decent seats, not in the last row of the balcony, that are more reasonably priced. Parking if you are in a normal care is easy. You can valet for a fee of about 20$ or park right across from the valet in the parking structure for a lot less and you just take the elevator and you will be in the middle of the pavilion. If you are in a large truck you will have a hard time finding a parking space. You will note the Dorothy Chandler because it is the big white one. The pavilion also houses the Mark Taper, which is a great place to see new plays and the Ahmanson, which for the most part has great musicals, but again, the repeats are too much.Their used to be great dinning there as it is pretty much the heart of Downtown LA, but the eateries there have really gotten bad, so eat elsewhere. It is beautiful and clean inside. The staff really needs to work on helping people find their seats and not just pointing. Get there on time.Have a great night.

Beautiful venue for operas and operas. The supertitles were clear and the place was very clean. Even though we were seated very high up for our matinee of the Barber of Seville, we had a good view of the stage. My specific seat was a bit obscured by the railing but that made my ticket cheaper, so I was cool with it. Parking is $10 all day on weekends and in the evenings in the garage, or you can try to find metered spots. Theres a courtyard with tables outside of the venue so you can have a little picnic or opt to eat at one of the many nearby restaurants. Ushers are nice. Bathrooms are available only on stage right at the top floor. There were elevator banks but most people took the stairs. You can preorder food and drinks for intermission. Seats were a bit narrow but still comfortable.

The Dorothy Chandler is a wonderful place to see the opera or the ballet. It is stunning inside and out. There are areas to walk, dine and drink. It is set in The Music Center in Downtown LA which has other play houses on site.Parking is easy on Grand in the structure there, and not expensive in the evening. You can also valet your car for about $18.00.Inside there is not a lot to eat, so dine at one of the restaurants located in the Music Center or nearby.During the holidays it is decorated with such beauty. The place is wonderful to begin with so you can go anytime. You can buy single tickets or get a subscription. The one thing they must do is come up with some new operas. There is only so many times I want to see the same thing. They should try newer operas and not just classics. You will enjoy your night out. Dress nicely.

The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is a spacious and grand opera house with a midcentury design that has held up very well. I was here to see Omar, the new opera by composers Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels. The production and sound were excellent. The only drawback was that the sight line from my aisle seat in the balcony was slightly obstructed by the hand rail. Overall, a great experience in a great venue.

The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. It sits on the Music Center pavilion which also houses the Mark Taper and the Ahmanson. For the most part the Dorothy Chandler shows opera and ballet. We have been many times and I have never seen a poor performance there. They are able to attract the best talent. The Operas are amazing and the ballet perfect. If you are going I suggest you make dinner reservations and eat at Kendall's, a French bistro right downstairs from the pavilion. You can park in the main lot on Grand Ave. for only $9. If you want you can have your car valet parked on Hope Street and you are right at the pavilion. Once on the property you will find it a beautiful oasis in Los Angeles. It is all beautiful. It is well maintained and there are fountains, places to eat, places to sit and areas just to walk around. Once you see the Chandler you will see its beauty. The staff is great, but please inform your staff when doors open so we are not standing around. The staff will help you to your seat. Inside the place is beautiful. It is always decorated at Christmas time and it is magical. The rest of the year it is just the beauty of the Chandler, with a sweeping staircase and beautiful chandeliers. It is inviting and comfortable.Inside doors you will find comfortable seats and everything is spotless. Now, if you are seeing the ballet you might want to sit in the Founder's Circle. It is pricey but worth it to see all the magic of the ballet. It is the mezzanine and it sits over some of the back orchestra seats. the balcony is large and quite reasonable in price, but it somewhat far back. I prefer the Founder's Circle for ballet and the orchestra for opera. There are no bad seats in the orchestra, but I prefer row 7 center. They follow all Covid protocols and I am so happy they do. You must show proof of vaccination upon arrival and you will wear your mask or you will be gone. I was just at a ballet in another City and I felt so unsafe with all the unvaxed and unmasked. This is one thing that is great about Los Angeles if you are on vacation. We don't want to make anyone sick. So, make sure you have your vaccination card with you and a mask. The Dorothy Chandler has a full bar and there are limited snacks. Please dress accordingly. Yes, this is California, but we are not that casual. Nice pants, a tie and jacket for men really is the minimum. I saw a man once in a velour pants suit in there and so did everyone else as we looked and shook our heads. You will love the Dorothy Chandler if you want to see a great opera or ballet. Have the best time.
