What a ride. This trail gives you the best of both worlds depending on what you’re looking for.The paved path along the Rio Grande is smooth, scenic, and perfect for a relaxed ride. Long, flat stretches make it easy to cruise and just enjoy the views. It’s also great for all levels, with plenty of access points along the way.But what really made it stand out for us were the trails inside the bosque. Once you get off the pavement, you can find gravel paths, horse trails, and even narrow single-track sections that turn the ride into a full adventure. We ended up doing 34 miles combining paved, gravel, and mountain bike terrain—and it was one of those rides that just keeps evolving.A few things to know: • It’s a multi-use trail, so expect walkers and runners • Some sections can get busy • Off-trail routes can be sandy, narrow, and a bit technical • Bring water—shade is limited in areasWolf on Wheels take:You can keep this ride easy… or make it as adventurous as you want. That’s what makes it special. We’d absolutely ride it again. ‍♂️

I took my wife and our dog for a walk along the Paseo del Bosque Trail, and it was exactly the reset we needed. We went in late November, when the cottonwoods are still glowing gold, and the whole riverside felt like it was an autumn paradise. The trail is flat and easy, with long stretches that let you really settle into the scenery—Rio Grande on one side, trees and little side ponds on the other. Our dog loved it. There’s plenty of room to keep a dog on leash without feeling crowded, and enough side paths and textures (sand, dirt, leaves) to keep him interested. We saw ducks and geese cruising on the water, along with a woodpecker working a cottonwood trunk. It also turned into a really sweet date. There are quiet spots to stop, sit by the water, and just watch the birds and the current go by. It never felt unsafe or overly busy, just a steady trickle of walkers, cyclists, and other people out enjoying the trail. If you’re visiting Albuquerque—or you just moved here and want to fall in love with the area a little bit—Paseo del Bosque is an easy yes.

This trail is in great condition, pretty long and easy, and very pleasant in the spring time. Its magical that this park exists all along the river right through downtown Albuquerque. Bring lots of water, there isn't any that I saw on the trail itself, though one can stop in one of the adjacent parks to find water and restrooms. Saw roadrunners, egret, non-rattle snake, blooming flag iris, cactus, sage and tamarisk. Very little shade while one's riding, though shady spots to stop in. Mostly one rides along the ditch, with trees and shrubs blocking the view to the river. I started from the Alameda Boulevard end and rode to Barelas. It was clean & felt perfectly safe. One can rent an ebike from the nice people at Kickstand Cafe near the start of the trail. Routes has good rep and reportedly rents non- ebikes, but they were closed on Wednesday.

We needed a day to just unwind and be away from a day filled with sightseeing. The trail and views were just what we needed to recharge for more sightseeing and day trips in New Mexico. We picked a magnificent day to walk the trail and enjoy the scenery.

An easy “walk in the park” whether one chooses to walk or bike…it can be an easy stroll or an adventure. You decide. The view from the trail to the peak is unbelievable. Bring a fishing pole or a picnic as there are many spots to stop and take a break!
