Beat the summer heat by taking a dip in the cool waters of Lake Powhatan. Nestled on a beach, this lake serves as a perfect backdrop for camping. A fishing pier is also found on-site so you can catch bait in the lake for your late-night barbeque celebrations.

tripadvisorGood for a night. 26 was an Odd site location. It was surrounded by road but was full hook up. The lake area was so-so, kind of filthy. Trails in camp area are just paths to other sites and water line. It was incredibly quiet though. Wouldn't return; would try another campground next time.
MoreSpent only 3 nights tent camping at this peaceful campground in the National Forest of Pisgah. Sites are spaced apart and private with foliage. Bathrooms are clean and accessible. Staff at checkpoint are friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and laundromat locations when you show up in the rain. Site 12 on Big John loop was shaded all day except for some sun poking through so it was perfect for a tent. Can’t wait to return, love this area! You can’t go wrong when camping with the Forest Service, inexpensive and just the right amount of amenities.
MoreSo-so Campground. Long winding uphill drive. Site was ok. Fire pit was 3-ft outside our door so, we were unable to have a camp fire. Absolutely no WiFi or cell signal. Not sure what one would do in an emergency. Our biggest concern was many free roaming dogs. Had a large dog come charging out at me and my dogs on a walk. Almost a fight happened. I was screaming and owner came out of her camper. Had to grab her dog by collar to bring back to her site. Her comment was “He usually doesn’t do that”. Next day we were on a trail walking our dogs and another hiker was allowing her dog to free roam. We backed out and went down a side road. Can’t recommend. We won’t be back.
MoreLocated in Pisgah National Forest. The campground borders the 6,000-acre Bent Creek Experimental Forest, a haven for mountain bikers, and is close to the French Broad River. There is a lake for swimming and beach. Of course we visited in winter so the lake was frozen. We took some cool pics. The NC Arboretum and Blue Ridge Parkway are nearby.
MoreThis campground was beautiful and kept up very well. All campsites were filled with trees and spacious for sitting around the fire. And the campground employees were so friendly and helpful!!! There are a lot of trails in this area and it was fun to explore. Will be back!
