The 'Battery' was created in the late 17th Century when the British government that then controlled New York mounted cannons there. It played a role in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War as well. Today, Battery Park attracts many New Yorkers and traveling visitors, especially in warm weather. Spread across 25 acres (10 hectares), the green park offers a fine view of the Statue of Liberty and New Jersey across the river. The historic Castle Clinton is also located inside the park.

tripadvisorI enjoyed the walk next to the Hudson river. It is a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city streets. I walked from the Trade Center area to the edge of the construction by the Statue of Liberty. Cool to walk and see her!
MoreNice pack tell the people trying to sell you a boat ride get lost they have red coats. There tour last way to long and is over priced. The park its self is very nice
MoreHuge scam. Confirm these guys hang around Battery Park and physicallly stop you going to terminal - saying they are the authorised tour seller. (They even have ID cards and uniforms.) Then you are overcharged and herded into a coach to leave from a totally different ferry port. Late. Awful. Scam. Avoid.
MoreLots of green space once you get past the many people trying to see you stuff. Can’t really see any of the sites of interest but a nice place to sit and relax for a couple of hours. There are chairs on some of the main green areas which were not tot crowded in comparison to the hoards of people using it as a way to get to the ferries. Beware of the small biting insects at grass level (hence the chairs)
MoreGreat spot to chill out, have lunch or simple coffee or ice cream, to enjoy the sun, to play with children, to walk with dog or to do some exercises. Close to Wall Street and Financial District, it's easy to access by metro. PS: it is the access to get the cruise to Liberty Island/Libery Statue and Ellis Island.
