Originally envisaged, in 1965, as a hang-out for students, The Ark has undergone quite some changes since then. This non-profit organization is dedicated to bringing live entertainment to the city and is an eclectic place for various concerts and shows that take place here. Special workshops and annual festivals are organized too. From jazz to contemporary, this place is truly a haven for those who love music. Not a huge place, but it has all the right ingredients to make it one of the most successful music venues the city has to offer.

tripadvisorWe’ve been to a number of shows at The Ark and love the venue. It’s a listening room that can hold about 400 people. So many good acts are booked here. Kudos to their incredible crew of volunteers. Just a heads up that you need a membership to buy an alcoholic beverage; there are various options from $5 to $5,000!
MoreI really didn’t like it here. Some of the seats are terrible with very little view of the stage. The people working there were not nice. It’s in a basement and the ceiling is very low for a music venue.
MorePlanned a whole trip around a concert at The Ark to hear Leo Kottke-- what a treat! Not a bad seat in this historic non-profit music venue. And it's in a thriving University town with great restaurants, breweries and coffee houses. I will say there was an awful lot of construction and workmen blocking off various streets-- an apparently common sight according to the owner of the inn where I stayed. Still, I highly recommend the Ark specifically, and Ann Arbor generally
MoreWe've been enjoying shows here for some 15 years or more. We buy General Admission tickets and get in line 30-60 minutes before doors open to assure that we get seats in front of the stage. Being within feet or yards of the performers makes the Ark experience magical. Worth it every time!! Among the shows we've seen here: Gaelic Storm, Millish, Nanci Griffith/The Kennedys, Peter Mulvey, Delbert McClinton, Jimmy Webb, Marcia Ball/Sonny Landreth, and most recently Djangophonique/Harmonious Wail. Be advised that alcohol is available for purchase only to Ark members (and you can buy a 3-month membership for cheap). Kudos to the Ark management, the sound guys, and the volunteers!!
MoreI'm part of a Hawaiian Dance Group, so we decided to see the Hawaiian Musicians here. It's a nice small venue. Makes a great intimate concert environment. We were on the main floor. The sound and view were excellent! They have concessions, and an elevator for people who can't do the stairs. There were multiple opportunities to meet, greet, purchase CD's, get them autographed, and take photos. A Nice, Small place to have enjoy entertainment!
