The floor hadn't been washed in a long time. There was food splatter next to a chair. I washed it myself and used up all the towels. The first one came back with black hand prints from the wiping. Like a kid's feet after walking barefoot in a grocery store. The room was an accessible room, so it might have been dirty because of wheelchair wheels over time. The flood light outside my window did a slow flash like a school zone. Even after closing the curtains and fastening it with a clothes hanger, the light still flashed under it because it wasn't long enough. The door didn't lock because the bolt was bigger than the metal door slot. They must not have checked the fit when they did the renovations. The renovations were really nice. You can tell they are trying. The bed was good and comfortable. Everything looked pretty new. There wasnt anything in the hallway to absorb noise so people talking as they went to their rooms was as loud as if they were in the room with me. They need a rug or something. The front desk guy was apologetic about the floor and took my towels. Said he would talk to the staff. He offered to clean it or move me to another room. I don't think they wash the floor unless it looks visually dirty, but the gray hard floor camouflages the dirt. The breakfast was great. Hot eggs and sausage. Fruit and waffles. Juice tasted like water though. Telephone in the room didn't work, but I think that a known issue because of the renovations. Had to call the front desk on my cell phone. Wifi blocked a lot of websites. Wife could get on Facebook but it didn't load pictures or comments. Her school website was blocked. I think most things can be chalked up to them being in the renovations stage, but that floor. Wow. At least the front desk guy brought me new towels, so customer service was good.

We stayed at 4 different Wyndham properties on our trip to Florida and back with a dog. We had no issues at any properties, all had comfortable beds and ample room as I generally book a king deluxe room. Breakfast was okay at all, but some are better than others.

My 19-year-old son attended transfer orientation at UGA and needed a last-minute hotel room that evening. I booked a room online and immediately called the Wingate by Wyndham because the reservation was in my name, and I wanted to make sure they knew my son would be checking in. That's when I was told he couldn't stay because guests must be at least 21 years old, even though that requirement was nowhere on the website. The clerk then told me I had booked through a third party and would have to resolve the issue with them. He gave me a phone number, and I spent nearly two hours being transferred between different customer service agents trying to get a refund. In the end, I was told, by a representative who was difficult to understand, that the hotel refused to refund my nonrefundable reservation. Fortunately, my credit card company refunded the $172 charge. Based on this experience, I would avoid this hotel due to its poor customer service and lack of transparency about its age policy.

Had a wonderful first trip to Athens, Georgia. Considering the building was having major renovations done; it was a very good time. We loved the continental breakfast and the staff was always helpful and very friendly. We will absolutely stay here again!

This hotel has some age on it and it shows. They do appear to be ramping up for a remodel so we’ll see what happens. Not great as it is.
