Image City Photography Gallery Art Gallery

Image City Photography Gallery is located at 722 University Avenue in Imagine Square. We are in the heart of ARTWalk in the Neighborhood of the Arts, an area that offers the highest concentration of visual and performing arts in all upstate New York. Rochester, often referred to as the "Image City of the World" and the "Photo Capital of the World" is historically rich in photography and our neighborhood is bursting with artistic energy. The partners of this gallery exhibit and promote their work and that of others. To further stimulate and broaden the public's awareness and interest in photography, the Gallery seeks diversity in photographic works and encourages the submission of portfolios for exhibition. The Gallery offers photographic artists the opportunity to rent exhibition space for their work. There is approximately 60 linear feet of wall space available for our featured exhibitions. Additional photographers display their work on panels, located throughout the Gallery interior. Each exhibition runs for four weeks. The Gallery will consider any work for exhibition that incorporates the creative use of light to obtain images, be it by photographic film, digital capture, mixed media, or other alternative process. Display of an artist's work is contingent upon acceptance by the Gallery's Curatorial Committee.

Image City is an excellent place to view the work of local photographers, with a new rotation of photos every 4-6 weeks. We usually try to avoid going on the First Friday because the gallery is not that large and it can be crowded enough to make it challenging to view the art on display. There are many talented photographers in the Rochester area and the gallery provides a nice sampling of their work. The gallery partners are friendly and knowledgeable and willing to discuss their techniques - I always find it informative to chat with any of the partners. This is a great place to take your time or breeze through as there is always something interesting to see.

If you like photographic art, this is a great showcase of photography especially local artists, but also regional artists. Depending on the artists showing at the time of your visit, you will find interesting photos of Rochester scenes, scenes abroad, and photos of fascinating color and texture at close range.

This is a great little gallery owned by a partnership of local photographers. We usually try to stop every First Friday to see what is new since the exhibit is constantly changing. This month they are featuring pics from local high school students... really nice photos from these kids. There is some excellent photography talent in this town - no surprise!

This fairly small cooperative gallery packs a big punch, with the resident and guest artists being some of the best in the world today in photography. You can always expect a variety of themes and styles from the 6-10 artists exhibiting at any one time. In many cases the result is spectacular. I have a hard time not wanting to buy almost everything I see. Shows change every 6 weeks or so with opening receptions popular on First Friday events.
