tripadvisorCame to see John Mulaney with my daughter. The show was great. Parking was a nightmare. The majority of people, like us, chose not to purchase the “premium parking” and we were all parked on grass. Getting out of grass “lot” was ridiculous. If there were people directing traffic, they were woefully inefficient. Starlight failed miserably.
MoreWish I could give no stars.Bought tickets to a show. Even with the promise of dangerous storms, a severe weather alert, 80mph winds and making guests shelter in their concession stands for 1 hour while a tornado touched down outside they refused to cancel. Because if they cancel they have to refund guests their money. Starlight is a venue that does not care about their guests safety due to their insurmountable greed. Stating you are a rain or shine venue should not include a tornado warning. They should be ashamed and you should not waste your money.
MoreGreat concert at Starlight Theatre! Our information said that the concert would start at 6:45. I was totally dubious that that was the case, but it did actually begin within just a few minutes of that time. The venue has lots of options for food and drink, so you could come for dinner and drinks. Good sightlines from most of the seating area.
MoreThe Journey to Oz, an adaptation of the classic Wizard of Oz for a younger audience, was brilliant. The indoor theater was intimate and cozy, the staff incredibly helpful, and the show magnificent. (I had tears steaming down my cheeks at the end!) We were in an out in about 70 minutes which is a sweet spot for what my five year old can handle. Looking forward to the other two shows for younger audiences this Spring!
MoreI've seen quite a few shows here over the years and it's probably my favorite venue in Kansas City.It is outdoors, but they installed large fans to help with air circulation (it helps some), but the acoustics are amazing. Truly in every seat you're going to have a great sound experience and with the big tvs on the sides of the stage you'll be able to see a lot of what is going on too, even if your view of the stage is a bit far back.Recently I saw Smashing Pumpkins, Jewel, The Pixies and Modest Mouse. In the past I've also seen Counting Crows, Live, Ben Folds, Violent Femmes, Weird Al Yankovic, Goo Goo Dolls, Soundgarden, Jack White, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, Tori Amos, and more! A lot of great acts come to this venue. In addition to concerts they have Broadway shows too. They are great performances and again the acoustics are really good for these. Some shows do have a new phone policy, where they provide a bag to put your phone in. It runs smoothly. They have also done some things in the interior portion. We went to an immersive Monet and Friends Alive experience and it was well done.Oh parking is now free and while you may have to walk a bit on somewhat uneven grass it's mostly well organized. It is also a clear bag venue. They have signs up as you walk towards the venue and their email communications remind you of this policy as well.If you have the opportunity to see something at this venue you should take it. They are often part of the $20 or $25 ticket specials and even if seated far from the stage it's a great show.
