McDaniel Farm Park Park

McDaniel Farm Park is a tranquil green space that sprawls across 134 acres (54.2 hectares) in Duluth. Once a cotton farm in the 19th Century, the park now serves as an excellent recreational area. Here, visitors can explore its intriguing past that has witnessed the perils of the Great Depression and weevil infestations through a restored barn, a blacksmith's shed, an old farmhouse, and a chicken coup. Along with the historic structures, the park features a network of 3-mile-long (4.8 kilometers) trails that take you through its scenic environs dotted with local flora and fauna, lush green grass, and little streams.

I love the park. I always go for a run and my husband and I always bring our puppy to the dog park. However today I had to leave from the dog park because someone had a big size dog in the little dog area. I had just arrived and the dog literally flipped my puppy and every time my doggy would run with other small dogs . This dog would chase it and bite at his tail to the point of cornering him. My puppy started getting scared and I had to leave. It had not even been 3 min. The owner would just call for his dog but thought it was funny. I just want to know if it can be implemented for owners to make sure they have their big dogs in the big dog area. I was not with my husband and didn’t know what else to do but to leave . I did not want to wait for my dog to get hurt or for that dog to bite him.

We've been there a number of times. The last time we were there, it was on a hot summer afternoon. The place is a nice nature reserve, particularly if you're a history buff.

We spent about two hours at the park. There is a trail about three miles long and while parts of it can be steep, most of it is shaded, which is nice in the summer. The park itself has a playground that is farm-themed. There is also two dogs parks; they are located next to each other, but one is for small dogs and the other is for big dogs. On the day that we were there, there was a film crew there and we got to see how they use the farmhouse and older buildings as a backdrop for their historical film. If you are meeting someone at the park, be sure to note that there are two separate entrances. There is plenty of paved parking. Restrooms were surprisingly clean.

What a wonderful nature escape in the city! The trails are so well maintained (sad that the trails to the playground were closed for maintenance but I totally understand). Could spend all day here. We walked about 3 miles of trails before the kids got tired. Lots of places to bring a picnic lunch or relax. All the swings that were set up along the paved trails were awesome little stops if a break was needed. Loved the sound of moving water along many of the trails. So peaceful and relaxing!! Definitely will be back when back in the area.

Spent like an hour and a half here, walked almost three miles. Lovely creek and trees. The farm part is lovely, great to learn about the farmer’s life in that era.
