It used to be a military base and indeed this big park is in a strategic location where the military could protect the Bay from invasion. But it was decommissioned years ago and has been developed into a delightful park with lots of features, even a beach. Can be a foggy area.

This was my favorite place to visit in San Francisco! The park itself is beautifully landscaped and has a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The visitor center is a nice place to stop with a lovely store and comfortable front porch. The people there are friendly and helpful. While we were there, they also had food vendors, so we stopped for a delicious lunch. They also had free transportation back to downtown which was nice! We ended up visiting twice because we loved the festive atmosphere.

Took the Presidio South Hills shuttle. Great views. Options to get off and see sights such as Inspiration Overlook and Baker Beach. Loved the Main parade Lawn with those quirky red chairs and the spectacular backdrop of trees and historic buildings. Also a great place to get lunch. Great info and interesting gifts and videos at the Presidio Visitor’s Center.

There's a fantastic little park in front of the Disney Museum which is a wonderful place to relax
