tripadvisorThis place is the best—since I discovered it around a decade ago—I don’t buy my art anywhere else. If you like day of the dead art, particular unique artwork by local artists at reasonable prices, this is the store. Johnny is a wonderful artist and store owner who will take the time to walk you through the art and the artist. Santisima is always my first and most important stop in ABQ!
MoreDefinitely need to stop at this place if you love unique art pieces that reflect New Mexico and its culture. I went in bought a couple of pieces, came back to show my wife and my daughter who loves art and bought two more pieces and plan on going back in a couple of days to take my other daughter and expect to buy more. We were fortunate that the owner was there the day we went, truly a gift to talk to him. He knew the history of all his pieces. If I ever come back to Albuquerque, I plan on stopping by again to see what new pieces he has.
MoreWe found Santisima while strolling through Old Town and were amazed by the artwork on display. I’m a big fan of Dia de los Muertos art and this place is full of beautiful pieces. If you’re in the area you should definitely visit. While unable to take a photo in the shop (understandably) I was allowed to take a picture of a stunning bridal statue outside.
MoreMy review comes from a different POV. I'm an artist and I work with Santisima. Exclusively and by choice. This is a gallery that not only has an amazing collection of original artwork in a variety of prices, but this gallery also treats their artists with respect and kindness. The owner is Johnny Salas and if he happens to be in the gallery when you're there, introduce yourselves and enjoy his vibrant and colorful personality. Johnny is a natural storyteller and will be happy to talk to you about his artists and their work. Then take the time to walk around the gallery. And walk around it again. And again. You will find artwork that cannot be found anywhere else. Santisima focuses on art that is expressive of our New Mexican heritage, including a sprinkling of Spanish inspired religious works and of course, Mexican inspired Dia de Los Muertos original works. If you are in Albuquerque, take the time to find this gallery and enjoy the burst of color and life that encompasses the cultures of Mexico and New Mexico. We are a multi-cultural state and Santisima is a wonderful reflection of all things New Mexico. Felicidades!
MoreAn interesting store with many local artists and others who do Day of the Dead and Frida art. Johnny, who runs the shop, knows most of the artists. A very interesting collection of highly colorful and striking art. A good introduction to those unaware of DoD art and a good place for those looking to add to their collections.
