tripadvisorWhat a gem of a place. I was here for a show by Shelby J, this was the last live music show before the theatre closed for an extensive refurbishment. Shelby owned the stage and boy that gurllll can sang!! The theatre, small intimate, and full of love and if the walls could talk, they would have some stories. Prince played his first live show here in 1979. The foyer plays homage to this history with photos from that very show displayed. The refurbishment will turn this theatre into a community hub, the theatre will remain, but built around the theatre will be a woodwork shop, a computer room, a sewing room, a meeting room. All of this for the community. A wonderful idea. The staff here love this place and want to see the it's history while trying to do the best for the community.
MoreVery affordable, diverse subject matter, small, intimate venue with a friendly atmosphere. I have been there many times in the past and have forgotten about it so MUST return to see a production soon.
MoreI was wowed by a show at the Capri Theater last night. It is a solo production by Erin Schwab along with her long time accompanist Jay Fuchs and band. Erin channels Judy Garland and Bette Midler. She is fantastic. In addition to having an amazing voice, she is one of the funniest performers I have ever seen. If you want to have a great time and leave the theater smiling, you should catch one of her shows. The Capri Theater is a very special place in North Minneapolis. Their Legend concerts are outstanding. One thing that makes them special is free cookies and bottled water in the lobby after concerts. It's a great way to mingle after the performance. A warmer, friendlier theater experience would be hard to find.
