Named after the family of industrialist James Duke, this private, independent research university sprawls over three campuses, and is an icon of research, culture, and education. The university attracts visitors for its Collegiate Gothic Architecture, the highlight of which is Duke Chapel, an active interdenominational chapel in the center of the school's campus. Other highlights include the Lemur Center–a rare and endangered prosimian primate sanctuary—a Medical Center, the Perkins Library, the Sarah B. Duke Gardens, and the Duke Forest and Golf Club. Student-led tours, and maps for self-guided tours, are available through the undergraduate admissions office.

We parked at the Bryan center parking garage. One side needs a permit and the other access side is for public parking. We went to the wrong side first and were confused, so just to help anyone else who does that. We ate at the Broadhead center on campus, which was easily walkable from the garage. I did have to ask directions from someone walking by. Lots of food options and beautiful building! Then we went to tour the cathedral which was very special. Lastly, we walked through the library and saw the gothic reading room and the walked around the quad. Good visit for my 9th grader to get a view of Duke!

Outstanding day on Good Friday when we visited this gorgeous campus. So proud that our country has such good universities for students to go to. There was a wealth of parents showing their kids around campus and many foreign students with ads to the pleasure of the diversity. We ate at the student Union and had an amazing special for $5 chicken and rice. If you get a chance make sure and visit this gorgeous campus.

We walked around the campus and went to the chapel. Beautiful campus, very well maintained pathways. The architecture is also amazing.

We spent the afternoon strolling through parts of the campus. It is absolutely stunning. We felt like we were in an old European village. We could not go inside the chapel because there was a wedding going on, but walking outside was good for this first visit.
