We came on a weekday when the house wasn’t open for tours but we enjoyed a nice little hike on one of the trails. It was so peaceful, easy to hike for kids, and a lovely way to spend the morning. We perused the gallery afterward and learned a lot about Samuel Morse. Highly recommend a stop if you’re in the area!

Attended the July 10th Sunset Sensations at Locust Grove Estates and sadly was very disappointed. This was to be 3 tasting courses prepared by Hungry for Travel each paired with a different wine and a wine presentation by Hopewell Wine and Spirits. The prepared food was all served cold and under seasoned. The wine choices were mediocre at best. The tasting courses were served on plastic wine holder plates that were clearly used several times over (cracked and water spotted). The dishes of food were served by someone whose fingers touched the food (no gloves). No water was provided. Difficult to really enjoy the food as you were seated lecture style (chairs no tables). As one of the courses was bone in baby back ribs, eating was especially challenging. Seats in the front row were all reserved despite there only being one level of ticket for purchase ($40 each) Individuals in the front were offered refills on the wine and food when the remainder of the attendees were not. This was a disappointing way to spend our wedding anniversary celebration. Will not try again.

We went here for a wedding and as a guest found this place to be beautiful. The reception was outside. And it was just perfect weather and beautiful outdoors.Inside there was a lot of space to eat and dance and enjoy. Great place.

I was disappointed that the house tour focused on a later owner and not Morse. Would have liked to learn more about him. Also, trail around the property were not well maintained,

Coming too early in the season to tour the house; we were able to explore the visitor's center, and some of the grounds. The center is obviously a popular venue; in that the parking area was nearly full, due to people attending classes/lectures within. The gift shop has a nice selection of items to browse; with the staff person there being friendly and informative. There was a really useful, to us, display of complimentary literature regarding the Hudson River Valley; much of which was helpful in our 10 day exploration of the area. The best part of the visit for us, was viewing the installation of an exhibit of paintings by Scott Thomas Balfe. His works were an exquisite assemblage of stunning landscapes; very much in the Hudson River Valley school of artistry tradition (one of our favorite genres). If we again visit the area; we hope it coincides with an opportunity to tour the home.
