Watson Lake and the Granite Dells around it are the highlight of a Prescott outdoor day for us. The shoreline trails give constantly changing rock-and-water views, and the light late afternoon is especially good for photos. We parked near the lake access and did a moderate loop — nothing technical, but watch footing on uneven granite. Summer storms can roll through fast. Pair with a short downtown Prescott stroll after. Worth the stop if you’re already on the I-17 / Prescott corridor.

Having moved recently to Sedona we were eager to explore Prescott. Hiking around Watson Lake offered spectacular views and a wonderful way to spend much of the day before heading downtown for a delicious lunch on Whiskey Row. A recommended spot to visit.

When my wife suggested we stop, I was skeptical. My mistake. We were all amazed at the site. It is such a beautiful, unique and peaceful place. I would highly recommend stopping.

Beautiful lake and scenery all around! Since it’s a State park, each car paid $3 to enter, and it was well worth it. You could spend the day there, but we walked around d and took some great pictures. There’s camping, at least one playground, boating, fishing, hiking, and grilling.

We hiked all the way around the lake which is about 5 miles. Most of it is a pretty easy hike but the hike over the mountain area is definitely a challenge but not impossible. You need to be in shape to do it but it is rewarding! Very beautiful and scenic. Well marked trails (just follow the white dots). We would recommend this trail but not the mountain part if you are not prepared. Bring plenty of water and snacks.
