Fort Williams Park Park

Fort Williams Park is today designated as a historic site and was once and active fort that defended the country, especially during the World War II. The fort was deactivated in June 1963, 64 years after it became the town's first military fort, and since then been bought by the town of Cape Elizabeth. The park is home to the iconic Portland Head Light, the state's oldest lighthouse and the Goddard Mansion. From the park, visitors can admire a panoramic scene encompassing the Ram Island Ledge Light and the Casco Bay islands. Picnic spots abound, and the pleasant summer weather makes this a great spot for family outings. Locals use the park for jogging, biking, and sports, and its an essential part of the city's outdoor life.

A beautiful place for light hike, enjoying the ocean view and the breeze. The trail along the coast is spectacular and straightforward. And of course while here, enjoy a visit to the Head Light.

Beautiful cliff side park. Very walkable with lots of points of interest. I really enjoyed the various plants and flowers. Every step along the trail gave us a new view and opportunity to take amazing photos of the cliffs, water splashing on the rocks, and the lighthouse. The park offers some food options with A Bite of Maine lobster rolls (6/7 options!) being our highlight. Lastly, I want to personally thank the amazing park staff and other visitors who attended to my husband when took a nasty fall. What a caring community!Considerations: Take a trash bag with you because there are no trash or recycle bins. What you carry in, you have to carry out.

I loved this park, good mix of history and walking trails. Lots of great photo ops. We didn’t do the museum but wish we did. We didn’t bring our kids but it looked like a very nice playground. We got there early and parking was a breeze but as it got later in the day it filled up. We stayed 90ish minutes but could have stayed double that. There was no admission fee but parking was paid by the hour.

Fort Williams Park is worth the short trip just outside Portland, ME. in Cape Elizabeth. It’s a beautiful scenic 90 acre space over looking the Atlantic Ocean. The iconic Portland headlight and historic Fort ruins (former US Army post) are especially notable. The park offers many trails, plant species and wildlife! If you go on the Cliff Walk you get panoramic views of the entire Casco Bay. There are also places to picnic and play various sports. It’d be a great place to spend a summer day!

While passing thru Cape Elizabeth we stopped at Fort Williams Park. If your into Light Houses it is worth the time to visit.
