tripadvisorThe Madison Buffalo Jump is one of many buffalo jumps in Montana. The Native Americans would herd buffalo and stampede them off the cliff. Other tribe members at the bottom would dress out the buffalo into tools, clothing etc. Nice hike to the top of the jump and great views.
MoreThis is an area with beautiful scenery but this park lacks in some things. The interpretive area is nice but we found trying to take a hike on the trail wasn’t good because there’s no signs and we finally had to turn back. It would be way better if they have a little bit of signage on the trails. And also the bathroom was locked which is unfortunate.
MoreAs a history enthusiast, I could not miss a chance to check out this site. It is easy to access and provides a tasteful, informative and simple glimpse into the past. The buffalo jump can be viewed directly from the parking area, but a short 1/4 mile hike will take you to a well designed kiosk that provides information about the site. The hike is uphill, but short and along a well marked and safe trail. I can't imagine not including this stop if you are in the area.
MoreOn a sunny day the hiking trail gives a good place to burn off a few calories and enjoy the outdoors. The history of the activities from the past are somewhat disturbing. Seems like a violent way for native Americans to hunt buffalo.
MoreVery beautiful area. The interpretive area is a must see. There are multiple displays explaining what you are looking at. The hike up to the jump is pretty steep.
