One of the most interesting museums. Be sure to do the docent tour- full of information.

We happened to walk by and saw that this museum was open. It was a marvellous museum, one of the best we have seen. I agree with some reviews, that it was hard to see the names of the painters and of the pictures. Nevertheless most of the paintings were absolutely stunning and the paintings were carefully selected to give the audience a comprehensive view of the American West and its art history.

This is one of the best museums we have ever visited. It is not huge, and the focus is on paintings depicting the western part of the US and by artists of the west. Paintings by a large variety of artists cover the walls. We explored one of the three levels with the audio option and then took a tour with docent Wayne Vigil. Wayne explained types of paintings such as magazine illustrations and art promoting tourism. Because he is an artist, he pointed out techniques and trends we might not have noticed. The entrance is down five or six steps from the street but there is a ramp; there is an elevator in the building. Visitors must leave water bottles at the entrance. Children under 8 are not allowed, and guards make sure guests do not get too close to the pictures. We highly recommend visiting and taking a tour. Because the museum is not open daily, guests should check the schedule when planning a trip.

I believe this is the best single-owner collection turned museum I've ever seen. Worried that it might be only cowboy art but it was an amazing group of pictures including multiple by Bierstadt (personal favorite), Hill, Moran, and others of that era. A good balance of landscape, Native American, and Settler subjects. Many pictures of very high quality - some of the best of the artists (for the ones I knew well enough to have an opinion). I enjoyed the salon style presentation of most of the collection - and the ability to see the paintings up close. The room settings at the front of each of the three floors were also nicely done with (surprisingly for many small museums) good furniture and such that complemented the pictures. It is reasonable to go through the place in about 2 hours. If I were closer, I'd go back and revisit.

Excellent collection in a small venue. The art is exceptionally well curated and the listening tour is very enlightening. The home the museum is located in is also exceptional. And just $5......Terrific
