tripadvisorThe Straz is a wonderful venue, and we love the Florida Orchestra. Which is what we thought we were coming to hear. But alas, the guys posing as Beatles, together with the electric guitars, keyboard and drums - drowned out all of the orchestral instruments nearly all of the time. And they were LOUD. We were very disappointed...
MoreWe love the Florida Orchestra. We are impressed by the orchestra under the baton of Michael Francis. We make a point of attending the orchestra wherever we go whether it is Berlin, Toronto, Montreal or New York and the Florida Orchestra, in our opinion , can hold its own in comparison to other orchestras We are not surprised, the Florida Orchestra has attracted world class soloists . An evening with the Florida Orchestra is always a special event
MoreWe would look forward to the new program listings, but lately the programs have been dull and uninteresting. With prices going up all the time, I don't think we'll be going anymore. Not worth the price, and parking either in Mahaffey lot in St Petersburg, or The Straz Center in Tampa are pricey and a big walk from the concert hall. Exiting either of those venues are a nightmare. High prices, dull programs, and traffic issues, no thanks, we'll find something else to do.
MoreAttended a wonderful concert performed at the Mahaffey center. It featured Beethoven 8 and Rachmaninov’s piano concerto no. 3 with a female guest soloist. Michael Francis is a young affable conductor who connected with the audience. It was obvious how well he connected with the orchestra. They played with a full dynamic range. It was a very enjoyable experience.
MoreSo much fun being in The Vinoy Park. Lots of little kids running around. Much a family affair. Enjoyed the concert. Enjoyed especially the sing along with songs that we all knew. Lots of fun. The fireworks were spectacular. Would recommend it highly.
