tripadvisorWhat an absolute gem! The beauty of this place is its simplicity. It’s a small dairy farm that loves its cows. You can take a self guided tour of the whole place. The cute gift shop has three free activities listed on its board: a self guided tour, tasting cheese, and playing fetch with Merl and two other friendly Australian shepherds. We did all those things. The highlight for us though was the cow cuddling. Thirty minutes was the perfect amount of time to spend with cute fluffy soft friendly cows. All the cows we cuddled were between 3 and 9 months, big enough to feel big, but not so big that they were scary. My mom and I haven’t laughed so hard in ages as one of the cows loved to taste everything. My only recommendation would be if you plan to visit multiple dairy farms in a day (we went to Muranda, Lively Run, and Sunset View) to do sunset view last because you can get rather grubby during the cow cuddling. There was one cow in particular, Odie, that insisted on tasting everything from my shirt to my shoes to my entire pony tail. Bring a change of clothes if you have plans for after cuddling!
MoreI was looking for special experiences to add to our trip to the Finger Lakes and stumbled upon the opportunity to cuddle cows at the Sunset View Creamery. We reserved our spots and couldn’t wait to go. The creamery is a bit off the beaten path from Watkins Glen, but only a few minutes away from town. We were greeted by their staff who had our reservations and welcomed us to the barn where five young cows were relaxing in the hay. We got half an hour to pet them and cuddle with them. They were all precious and gentle. Their tongues have a rough sandpaper-y feel and one of the calves tried to milk my daughter’s hand (haha!) I took a ton of beautiful photos of my oldest who spent the whole half hour cuddling. My youngest left early because she was distracted by the two cute farm dogs who wanted to play fetch. After our cow cuddling experience, we got to meet the younger calves and their two cute goats. We also popped into their shop where they had samples of their delicious cheeses. They also had ice cream and flavored milks all made at the dairy. My husband and daughters each got a milk to drink (strawberry, mocha, and chocolate) and all were delicious. I highly recommend taking the cow cuddling tour, but I have a few tips I wish I knew. Bring something disposable to sit on, like a plastic or paper bag. It is not offered on the tour. It’s hard to crouch down for 30 minutes and you don’t want to sit in the hay (as you might imagine, the calves are not housebroken). The website makes it clear that you need to wear close toed shoes. Again, probably best to wear shoes you can wash or shoes you don’t mind tossing in case you step in something like I did. It’s hard to avoid it. I know that’s a lot but don’t let it discourage you from going! Our kids loved the chance to get up close and personal with these gentle and beautiful animals (I did too).
MoreThe cheeses they produce are excellent. My husband and I were looking for quality cheeses more than farm visits. Enjoyed them much more than the Lively Run cheeses!
MoreWe were driving from Elmira to Watkins Glen and had found this place on Google Maps. Several friendly dogs greeted us when we arrived. The shop was well stocked with lots of their products. We especially liked the cheese curds.
MoreFirst I need to say this is a very family friendly working farm - cheeses are very good, dogs give you a warm greeting. This is about one event only - Mother's Day Wine & Cheese Pairing 2021 - Very disappointing - $20 person - served outside under a small popup tent (nowhere did it say it would be outside) - 43 degrees and light rain - could not begin to be comfortable enough to enjoy. Each person had 8 cheese samples for the pairings which were all served on one small paper plate that was marked with a marker into four wedges numbered 1-4; a small plastic cup (more like a shot glass size) for the wine and a small plastic cup of oyster crackers (to share). Each pairing consisted of 2 bite size cheese samples and one small sample of wine - there was a rapid description of each cheese and a pkg of each was shown - wine was also minimally described. Since this was a Mother's Day event it was definitely lacking in presentation and atmosphere. (Since each sitting was limited seems like they could have planned ahead for an indoor location if needed).
