Got kicked out of the bar for absolutely no reason. Was sitting at the bar sober when I got a tap on the shoulder to leave the bar. Was with multiple people who can attest I was not drunk or any reason to get kicked out. This place stinks!

Great vibes, cool staff. My favorite part is that the staff will come and check on your table often instead of you having to go to the bar, even when it's busy. Definitely in my top five favorites in Grand Rapids

My group of 5 came to Grand Rapids for a girls weekend, and this was our first bar on the list! Recommended by the local baristas, I'm so glad this is where we started our night. The bartender(s) were very accommodating, and even were willing to make a specific drink my friends and I like (malibu w/ rum chata topped with pineapple juice). While here, a server made an announcement it was a girl's 21st birthday and the whole crowd sang to her. Some of the regulars even announced a bride was in the house and I saw her get bought a few rounds of shots. Everyone was so friendly and gave good recommendations for other locations to hit on our bar-hop. The meanwhile bar knows what it is: it's the local artsy-dive where anyone is welcome. If you're looking for a more quiet space, try to get seated on the patio out back! The hanging lights are pretty out there.

If you want to be treated like you’re invisible, go to this bar and sit on your stool and wait for 15 minutes for the bartender to bother coming over and serving you. The locals get all the service and if they don’t recognize you you are treated like a second class citizen - you see, the bartenders are too busy waiting on their friends and catching up and socializing. So if you go, don’t be disappointed if you are treated badly. Never again.

We visited The Meanwhile before going to a movie at the Wealthy Street Theatre. The bartenders behind the bar were very friendly with everyone, but ignored us for a long time. It became apparent very quickly that this was a local's bar, and they were comfortable serving the people they knew. We had to wait forever for a drink, and they were very off-putting. Tonight we were there was a Tuesday night, and it seemed like they were all local younger people. And maybe they just didn't want us there. They sure didn't act like it. Unless you commit to becoming a regular, you're better off going somewhere else.
