Took the Amtrak down from Boston for a little day trip to Providence. The ride is only about 40 minutes, so it’s an easy escape from the city. Waterplace Park was probably my a nice spot to wander around. The river, little bridges and old buildings make it a nice place for a slow walk and a few photos. It’s especially pretty when the lights come on around the river. That said, I wouldn’t plan an entire day around the park. Providence is charming in its own way, but honestly, it can feel a little quiet and even a bit boring if you’re expecting a packed sightseeing itinerary. For me, it was more about having a relaxed day, grabbing lunch, walking around downtown and enjoying a change of scenery from Boston. Worth a day trip if you’re nearby, but I wouldn’t go out of my way just for Waterplace Park.

Water Place Park is a great place for a walk right in the middle of the city, it is only a few minutes from the Amtrak station. They were building a new stage on our visit but the water and how quiet it was made for an enjoyable place to take 5.

One of the things that made our visit to Providence great and easy is the walk around the river and the community's water assets which come together for a central gathering place between the downtown commercial area and the capitol of Rhode Island. While it is a great open area to walk it appears to have seating to hold events on the water. Nothing was happening during our visit, but it did provide great views of the city. I highly recommend walking the area when you are in Providence.

Nice place. Needs some life and activities. Very dismal. I was visiting from NYC. Couldn’t find one thing to do here. Unfortunately. There was an ice rink few blocks away we went by look around and left.
