The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts is one of the fewer than 10 museums in the United States dedicated exclusively to photography and only one of two such museums in Florida. Located at 1630 East 7th Avenue in Ybor City, a Tampa suburb. Established in 2001, the museum is home to community programs such as the Children's Literacy Through Photography program for at-risk children and adult photography classes, workshops and children's summer camps. The growing permanent collection features a suite of Harold Edgerton's works using his invention, the strobe light. Other highlights on display are the collection of Len Prince's celebrity portraits, a notable Dorothea Lange, a portrait of Ansel Adams by Judy Dater, scenes of Pittsburgh by Charles Harris and a body of work by Dianora Niccolini, a pioneer in the photographing of the male nude. Not to mention female nudes by Ruth Bernhard, Burk Uzzle's iconic Woodstock scenes and Bud Lee's unforgettable views of important moments in American history in the 1960s and 1970s. Also a collection of early 20th century panoramic photographs of the construction of the Panama Canal and the early history of Tampa.

Great small museum of photography. Has two galleries (2 exhibits). I have seen a few shows here. Really well curated. It’s one of my favorite small museums and right in Ybor City so terrific food options. Great day out.

The museum (which really shouldn’t be called a museum) is very small - I appreciated this. There’s only two exhibits at a time, great AC to get out of the Florida heat, and something cool to do when you’re in YBOR. I suggest looking up the exhibits beforehand to see if they’re something you’re truly interested in viewing, if not it will feel like a waste since the museum is so small. I specifically went for their exhibit Here and Now which explored culture, community, and belonging and highlighted artists of color. I really enjoyed it.

I though I was going to see more pictures for the price I paid ($10), but I was dissapointed that it was only 3 rooms with not that many photographs. I think that place has potential, but someone should take better care of it.

This Museum known as MoPA sits comfortably on Central Avenue in Ybor City. the current exhibit focuses on photos of celebrities, mostly of music industry, from the 20th century. From the lists of events, classes, and special exhibits, I signed up for a street photography class in late January for 2 hours of expertise for me to use my iPhone.Great venue that is accessible. Current photo sales benefit the local Artist community,Accessible restroom with grab bars.Accessible parking with pay by app street parking and van access in pay by app lot parking. curb cuts near the corner,Great snapshop of photography!
