tripadvisorBeautiful historic house featuring a lot of creative woodworking such as wooden door locks and a wooden spiral staircase. I'd classify the main style as Arts & Crafts, but the Maloofs also collected a lot of eclectic art.We took a 2-hour tour (just the downstairs rooms) that actually took closer to 1.5 hours. No photos inside the house, though we did get to sit in one of Sam Maloof's chairs. The interior of the house appears to have air conditioning. Also on the property is a small but steep garden with yard art, a small gift shop, an art gallery (~10–30 minute stop), an active woodworking shop, and bathrooms. The parking lot is a little small and has some tight turns; if you have a longer vehicle, you may want to park on the curb instead. There was also an interactive print-making demo when we were there, in the same rooms they use for woodworking classes.Overall, an enjoyable experience, though $30 per adult seemed a bit steep. We spent about 3.5 hours there total.
MoreFun for woodworkers, and interesting collections of Pueblo pottery in addition to the beautiful furniture he made. Eclectic and interesting house.
MoreWhether you are a woodworker, Sam Maloof fan, or an admirer of fine furniture, this is a great place to visit when you're in the Inland Empire. Check their website for hours because their schedule changes periodically. The museum features a revolving schedule of exhibits and also give you a glimpse behind the scenes of a high-end custom furniture brand. They continue to produce custom furniture under the brand despite the loss of Mr. Maloof several years ago.
MoreI never heard of Sam Maloof but have visited his place twice now. To me he is an example of never giving up and living your dream. One of the things that fascinated me is that he on built what he needed to use. When he needed more space, he built it. I found his funiture very interesting, beautiful, practical and comfortable. I highly recommend seeing this museum especially if you like wood furniture.
MoreThis studio/home is an oasis in the middle of a city. Tours begin at noon on tour days, but because we were pressed for time with a long drive ahead of us, they kindly accommodated our request to come earlier. We took the basic tour, which lasted 1-1/2 hours. This mostly consisted of visiting the home, with a quick look at the studio space. I wish we would have had time to stroll through the gardens, which were beautiful. If you are at all interested in art, woodworking, or just historic homes, you will enjoy a visit to the Maloof home.
