Guajome County Park Park

This regional Park, once part of Mission San Luis Rey, covers 579 acres, including a 25-acre lake. The lake does not have a launch ramp, but is ideal for children to attempt their first shore fishing endeavor. In addition to the lake, this park also features a large children's play area as well as various hiking trails. Early morning runners, who jog through the trails accompanied by pets, frequent the park. It's the perfect place for a family day outing. Best of all, the park (including lake use) is free of charge.

My Mapquest led us to the lower picnic entrance. After we parked and looked at a park map, we realized that we were not near the lake. We drove out and around to enter at the Main Entrance on Guajome Lake Road.Reading the reviews, it appears that this is a very popular park for camping. We were there only to do some trail walking. We did, however, get lost/sidetracked, primarily due to the lack of trail signage. But, we eventually found our way to walk around the lake. We had a nice couple of hours in the park.

Guajome is for the most park and RV and camping spot, but you can stop there for a bit just to enjoy the park area. It is super nice. After having had a terrible experience at a Denny's in Oceanside, I had to use a restroom so we stopped. It was a typical camp ground bathroom. It was clean and stocked. The park has lots of places to walk and hike. Beware if poison ivy and oak. They try to mark it, but can't catch it all. The walk areas are lovely with lots of beautiful tree and shade. It really looks like you left the City. They also have a duck pond. Some would call it a lake, but it really is just a duck pond. It is ever so cute with lots of ducks and geese and my grandson loved it. We were just able to relax for a bit and we had a great time.

I love RV camping here with my (3 little) kids. Pros: The facilities are clean. The sites are large enough so that you’re not on top of other campers. Some of the sites back up to the trail which is great because you can go on walks through the beautiful foliage of San Diego. The rangers are friendly and helpful. There is a volleyball court, work out area, and kids play ground that are all in good working order and are located in shaded areas. It’s CHEAP. Cons: Our first visit was a little confusing, we arrived after check in time but were told to proceed to our site. We did, but when the ranger shift changed the next morning the new ranger told us we were a “no show” & needed to check in at the front and that we would have to pay a late fee? When we got to the station there was no late fee. It was all very confusing . But no harm done.. The park is public, so if that bothers you having people around on the trails and near your RV that are not from the RV park that could be an issue. It was not for us. All in all, we come here several times a year and truly love it. Best place to RV in North County by a long shot

I had to look at the other reviews to see what people DIDN'T like about this place; ok, mosquitos... there is a LOT of standing water around here so yeah, I could see that being a problem during mosquito season, but I was here in January, so I didn't see it, and I've traveled extensively through the South and East so I don't think we could possibly have anything that equals Florida in July. Between the fear of being eaten alive by bugs and my dog eaten by an alligator, I couldn't get out of the South Fast enough. But that's another review... Ok, the bathrooms are definitely campground-chic, but they're clean and tidy. That said, yeah, this isn't the place if you're a potty-snob. I'm an RV'er and I have that kinda thing handled so this place was amazing. Beautiful hiking trails for my pup; don't off-road there are paw-stickies and poison oak about (they have tried to mark it). Super nice sites with loads of room and all laid out so that you're not staring in your neighbor's windows or having to enjoy dinner with them AND their 10 kids right outside your door. Nice fire pits, if you like fire, which I don't. A lovely pavillion if you need something for a gathering. The lake is more of a big duck pond. I avoided it because of the fair amount of goose goodies my dog tends to hoover up. LOADS of trees. Lots of shade. Close to everything in San Diego, and a fair amount in OC where I'm from. There just isn't much in the way of nice campgrounds with hook ups nearby. For $29 this is a must go to. Bring the bikes for the kiddos; lots of very safe bike riding area. 5 bars for ATnT if you work from home like I do. Don't know about Verizon. Don't care. But if you don't want to hear the kiddos whine they aren't connected, and you're with AT&T, this place has your back. ;)

We camped in our RV for two weeks. I really liked the park, it was quite and the grounds were beautiful and well maintained. It is about 15 minutes from the beach and close to shopping and downtown Vista or Oceanside. It has water and electric at the sites, a dump station is on site. I would recommend it for short stays of 1-5 days since you have to disconnect to dump your tanks. It would have been a four star except for thethe bathrooms, they don’t have doors or heat and it was cold 30- 58 while we were there. Shower and toilet doors were missing latches/locks and pay showers aren’t the best. After the first shower my wife took, she refused to go back. The water was warm but not hot and they wouldn’t adjust the temp. I asked three different times.
