tripadvisorI can’t speak to the arts component of this place (locally known as “701 Whaley”), but the large annex-like room used for band concerts and other special events is well-suited for the purpose. The place has a cozy-intimate feel and surprisingly good acoustics. We recently attended a concert featuring the Dick Goodwin Big Band (one of our long-time favorites) and enjoyed it very much. The casual seating and open bar (beer/wine, pizza) were just right for the occasion. There is free parking in the adjacent lot.
MoreAttended an avant garde Jazz performance by the Norwegian band Friends & Neighbors. The location lent itself very well. The event was sponsored by The Nordic Club and the Columbia World Affairs Council. 701 is a great location for those who appreciate the arts in a casual yet contemporary setting.
MoreThis is not your typical gallery or art museum. If your are interested in seeing the work of artist living or working the southern US, 701CCA has constantly changing exhibits. The 701 CCA also hosts resident artists who are invited to work on site and display their work in the gallery. The center organizes and hosts a variety of events such as dance and music performances.Currently exhibiting the 701CCA Biennial- I visit the center about once a month and have found the variety of subject matter, media, and techniques of artists interesting and usually quite unconventional. Check the 701 CCA web site for current activities, gallery times and special events.
