tripadvisorThe Athens Theatre is a fantastic, beautiful theater! The stage is magical and everything in the theater is beautiful and refined! Is where stories come to life and you are transported to a different time and place!This time we saw “The Sound of Music” and it was amazing! The fact that they had an orchestra was one of the details that added to this musical! The cast was fantastic! The nuns were delightful to listen to especially the Reverend mother! The main cast was extraordinary, especially with the father of the children. All of the children had beautiful singing voices. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and if they continue to bring back musicals from the golden era, we will definitely return! (Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, Gypsy, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Brigadoon, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, and Mame to name a few!)We aren’t old, we just like those musicals! :)The concession stand is in the box office area but they have one in the auditorium during intermission. The parking is easy next to the theater or in front of it. They have season tickets and they are reasonable. We’ll be back! Fantastic!!
MoreThe Athens Theatre is truly a gem in Deland - if you have the opportunity to attend any performance there, don't hesitate! Be sure to take a moment and look at the historic architecture as that adds to the charm of the venue. My husband and I went to see the Never Stop Believin' Journey cover band and they were phenomenal! The acoustics of the theatre, along with its cozy atmosphere, created an immersive experience that made the performance even more enjoyable in this one-of-a-kind venue!
MoreI love the charming brick exterior of this historic theatre. We came for a performance of Rent & had center balcony, front row seats. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance & appreciate the theatre’s close proximity to area restaurants. We’ve already taken a peak at next season’s lineup & will definitely be back.
