Beneath the towering buildings of downtown, you will find numerous houses from various times in Texas history. There is a log cabin from the days before Texas was a republic, a house built during the early years of Texas' Independence and other homes from the 1800s and early 1900s. Heritage Society tours will take you through a museum, tearoom, the Yesteryear Shop and the Frontier Trading Gift Shop. The park itself is large, green and peaceful. The experience is like walking through a little slice of heaven in the middle of the downtown chaos.

tripadvisorI thought this park was very pretty, even on a cold winter day. A needed green space with lots of skyscrapers around, so expect to see a lot of people using it.
MoreWhat a great park! The views are awesome and I learned a lot of history about the area that I was not aware of. We took our dog and explored for a few hours. Will return!
MoreLove free museums! This outdoor park has several historic buildings (homes, church, outbuildings) original to Houston. Each building displays a QR code which directs you to either an audio or written description of the property.Although we did walk into the actual museum building, we opted not to tour it. I believe the entrance fee was about $10 per person. They also offer guided tours of the several buildings on site for +- $15 (which included the small museum). The helpful young fellow at the museum was able to give us a map and some excellent suggestions of what to see and do in Houston. Most importantly, how to get down to the underground tunnel system that the business people use.We spent well over an hour here - learning about some of the original, bigwig residents of Houston.Highly recommend!
MoreThere are several timed tours throughout the day. We waited in the gallery for the 2.30 tour and we’re given a tour of 3 houses. Kean was a knowledgeable guide and we enjoyed the experience.
MoreI went to Sam Houston Park for the first time in 2021, where Day of the dead festival takes places. I wore my costume there in order to celebrate. But no, my phone got small storage. So, I better record it on my tablet someday. The party is great, the music, the performances, and Catrina concerts are way better than ever. I rather be going back there and continue my expedition.
