I recently spent a week at the Connecticut River Valley Inn for an Artists Rising Workshop and it was fantastic!! The location, the inn, the food and the program were all really special. Pat and Wayne are genuine locals and really care about the hospitality they are providing. We arrived very early and since our room was ready, they allowed us to check-in. They did not have to do that, especially as they were still very busy getting the place ready for our group. But they did and it was very much appreciated. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our stay was all-inclusive with breakfast and lunch every day and a welcome and farewell dinner. The workshop was held in the on-site studio which was so pleasant. It had lots of windows that allowed for lots of natural light and views of the surrounding gardens. All the common rooms of the house are cozy and whimsically decorated. Pat has a wonderful eye for color. Our beautiful bedroom was on the second floor facing the street and I was concerned there might be street noise at night. But it was SO quiet. Pat later told me they had installed an extra layer of glass on the exterior to seal out any potential noise. Every morning the table was set for breakfast. Coffee, tea, juice, toast, fruit, yogurt and granola were available along with bacon, sausage, and Medjool dates. Then a hot item was also served. Lunch was similar with delicious light fare; crab cake, vegetarian burger, chicken salad typically served with a delicious green salad. Everyone was served the same thing which was great!!! No decisions needed to be made. For dinner we would go into the nearby town of Glastonbury, only a 15-minute walk away. The workshop with Dianne Kappa was wonderful! She is a fantastic teacher. There were ten students and she was able to cultivate and inspire each of us working with our various styles and experiences we brought to the studio. There was also a lot of sharing, not just between teacher and student, but among the students as well: ideas, materials, tools and lots of laughs. That, no doubt, came from Dianne’s influence. The days flew by and on the final day when we laid out the work we had done it was such a wonderful feeling. I think we were all very proud of not just our own work, but everyone’s work. I can honestly say the week spent at the Inn and the workshop was one of the best experiences I have had. Thank you, Pat and Dianne.

Glastonbury is a charming town with numerous small shops and restaurants. The Inn is in town and within walking distance to a Whole Foods, plenty of shops and restaurants, cafes, hiking and more. There is a Jerry's Art Store and Blick about 20-minutes away to buy any art supplies you might want. The Inn itself was built in 1740 and is gorgeous inside and out. Each room is decorated differently. The art studio is located steps away and we went after dinner each evening to work on our art. The food was delicious. I enjoyed every single meal. Everything was fresh and healthy. It was relaxing and easy. I felt very spoiled. I highly recommend attending an art retreat here or even just staying a few nights!

I had the joy of teaching at the Artist’s Rising Retreat at the Connecticut River Valley Inn, and it was such a wonderful experience. The property is gorgeous—lush gardens, beautiful old trees, and tucked-away spots perfect for relaxing or soaking in nature. You instantly feel like you’ve stepped away from everything. The art room was filled with light and space—such a comfortable, inspiring place to create and teach. The house itself is lovely, full of thoughtful details, and Pat and Wayne were incredible hosts. The food was delicious, and they truly went above and beyond to make everyone feel cared for.Teri, the events coordinator, was amazing—so organized, warm, and thoughtful in making sure everything ran smoothly. It’s the kind of place that fills you up creatively and personally. I can’t recommend it enough and hope I’ll get to return one day.
