Charlestown Navy Yard is perhaps best known as the home of the USS Constitution, but it has at least one more gem to offer tourists - Green Turtle Floating Bed & Breakfast. Three separate boats, Green Turtle I, II and III, make up this luxurious accommodation, and guests have the opportunity of enjoying a vacation aboard a houseboat or motor yacht, whichever should take their fancy. The elegantly designed rooms, with their queen beds and modern amenities tempt guests to stay inside, but sitting on a dock chair, taking in the views of the water, is just as appealing.

tripadvisorThis location is great. Easy to get everywhere you want to go and it is a lovely environment. However, I would caution anyone with either mobility issues or unfamiliarity with boat living. While we enjoyed our stay in Boston we would probably not choose The Green Turtle again. We feel it was misrepresented re: daily breakfasts, contact with owners, and easy access on to the vessel. To explain further, reviews indicated warm bagels, muffins etc would be delivered every day by the owners, whom we understood lived close by. We had two deliveries of breakfast, both times not in the morning, both only cold muffins and we found out from the manager the owners live 3.5 hours away. I contacted Karen, one of the owners re: access onto the boat before we committed. I had a concern because my husband will be having knee replacement surgery in a few weeks. She assured me they would be there to help us with luggage. This is true, their manager was there to assist, but even without luggage the staircase was a challenge. I would have appreciated seeing a picture of those stairs prior, or at least having her explain to me what they were like. All in all I think there are many more favorable places to stay in that area.Pat MillerStay dates Sept. 2026
MoreWe found the Green Turtle B&B to be a disappointment. First of all, it is not a B&B. No breakfast brought each morning as advertised. The boat has a great deal of deferred maintenance. It is beat up and needs lots of work, many of the lights didn’t function and there are cracks in the walls. Every cushion and rug is worn out and many are stained. We did not meet Jon or Karen. We had little instruction from Sherri, she mostly talked about a nearby store and vaguely pointed in the direction of the ferry service. An instruction book on the premises would have been helpful. Most of all I felt the descriptions were misleading and I checked every source I could. Access to the boat was difficult and the our shower had a ledge about 2 plus feet high to climb while balancing on a tiny step to get in and out. The second bedroom is for children, or maybe one adult. One has to climb into the bed and a grown person has to enter the shower sideways. The location was great, the water was hot, loved Boston but you need to be more upfront with descriptions.Strangely there is not even one bad review……..
MoreThe floating bed and breakfast is nice except for these issues. The view from the front door is blocked by a huge yacht that is parked in the front. So, when you sit outside the houseboat that is what you see and they can see inside the houseboat unless you have all the shades down. The yacht resides at that slip. The bathroom door which is a pocket door needs another handle to grab so you can close the since door easily since it gets constantly stuck and you can't shut the door without a lot of force. The shower handle is also broken and you need to get two people to turn the handle. If we had known about the yacht being parked in front of the houseboat we would not have booked the rental.
MoreUtterly Amazing Relaxing Stay in Central Boston's Charlestown Marina. The host's pre-arrival, arrival and during-stay service is flawless. Note: the floating accommodation is split between two queen rooms that can be separate or shared. We just used one side while another couple booked the other side, with plenty of privacy. The room and bathroom with shower was beautifully appointed. Wifi, TV, kitchenette with microwave, coffee/coffeemaker, delicious muffins, fridge with yogurt fruit juices.....no full breakfast were perfect. We paid for parking in the adjacent marina parking was very secured. Once checked in, all attractions in Boston are easily reached by walking or a UMass Hospital bus (free) to central Boston, a short walk to Bunker Hill or the USS Constitution or Ubering.Just a perfect and unique stay!
More1st a, I want to say hello to Jon and Karen, our wonderful hosts at this unique and beautiful house boat! I feel that we have 2 more friends in this world now after living next door to them for 3 nights! Lol! The Green Turtle was simply amazing. We were staying in Boston after coming off a 16-night Transatlantic ocean voyage and the gentle rocking of the houseboat helped to acclimate us back to dry land! Jon is the perfect travel host with many restaurant ideas and ways to get around their beautiful city. Karen should be working in a 5 star restaurant serving her fantastic breakfasts! The location at pier 8 is perfect. You have many options to get into downtown Boston but can escape the noise and honking and crowds each evening to your quiet floating room. Whether you choose to walk (as we did) or take the ferry, it is all part of a beautiful experience. Jon will also explain to you about the hospital bus, another wonderful way to make the most of your visit. We have recommended this secret hideaway too many friends, including our travel agent! It is an experience that we would love to repeat. Thank you, Jon & Karen! ❤
