tripadvisorOur tour included a stop at Juniper Pass in the Arapaho National Forest, and the views were absolutely mind-blowing, with breathtaking landscapes in every direction. It was one of those places where you really have to stop and take it all in. The combination of towering mountains, forests, and the wide-open Colorado landscape made this an unforgettable stop on the tour.If you're traveling through the area, definitely take the time to stop and enjoy the views—you won't be disappointed!
MoreThis national forest maintains the same feeling as the Medicine Bow area - very homey, crisp & clean air and wonderful vistas. Don't simply drive by, drink it in!
MoreThis place has so many trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. We did a mountain bike trail that had fast technical downhills and tough climbs. The views at the top looked back towards the Rockies and the Aspen trees were starting to turn yellow! We passed at least 30 hikers in the trail and everyone was friendly. The campground was full with a 6 month waiting list, which is pretty common for Colorado.
MoreFrom Estes Park to Mary Jane to Winter Park - see 14ers and great sights of the Rocky Mountains- see the Continental Divide - hike or view Silver Lake
MoreWant an unforgettable, closeup view of Colorado's Continental Divide, including 14ers Evans and Bierstadt? Hike the Silver Dollar Lake trail (about 4 miles round-trip from the trailhead, rated as moderate, dogs allowed) in Arapaho National Forest. Out of Denver, pass through Georgetown to the Guanella Pass trailhead area (due to snow, we parked here and hiked up Naylor Road, adding a mild 2 miles to the round-trip). The Silver Dollar Lake trail will take you past privately owned Naylor Lake to Silver Dollar Lake, a cool, windswept, classic alpine chip of blue sheltered by Square Top Mountain (13,795 feet). The views throughout this very reasonable high country, round-trip hike are unforgettable. You will never get this close to the true essence of the Colorado Rocky Mountains by driving on a road. We started on the trail just before sunrise on a late October morning, and had it almost entirely to ourselves on the way in, encountering only light, cheerful foot traffic on the way out. There was snow on the ground, increasing as we climbed upward, but it was never impassable and only enhanced the experience.
