tripadvisorWhen looking at photos, we assumed that Restoration was an architectural term. Apparently it was about restoring a motorcycle, which was the main theme of the hotel. The hotel had tremendous potential, even though it sits on the outskirts of town. The motorcycle theme was cute, but took away from the enormous potential of this hotel. Sadly, even though it had plenty of character, the basics were not addressed! The water pressure in our bathrooms and kitchen was a bit more than a dribble and the maintenance man could not change that. Our stove had a beautiful hood range, which we intended to use, was broken. A part had to be ordered that never came in during our stay! The curtains were falling off, and many little details like mold in the shower, hardware falling off and tile needing to be caulked ....made the place feel not worth the money. We had gorgeous windows that opened up to a drab block of concrete wall. Our patio furniture was an afterthought! The only ornamentation was a plant that had dropped a pile of leaves on the deck that could have been swept up and tidied and it looked pitiful. It was apparent that there was a housekeeping problem. For the amount of money the room cost, we expected someone to be more accomodating and ask us if there was anything we needed. Instead, there was a concierge name Mat, who had apparently been on vacation and nobody let us know when we left him numerous messages on his machine when trying to make arrangements. The desk clerk Kathy became very short tempered with me when I appeared to ask too many questions. Another desk person named LaShara was an absolute professional. She was kind, upbeat, and very helpful. They left a beautiful breakfast suprise basket every morning which was great!!! There was a jewel of a swimming pool on the roof that could have been spruced up a bit...It had two hammock like chairs that took up most of the deck and were very difficult to get in and out of. The door required that you pushed a green button to exit, but did not instruct you to open the door simultaneously. A person that had never been there before like me, would press the button expecting it to open. I was a prisoner on the pool deck for 5 minutes until an unwitting guest came in from the other side and let me out. My summary is as follows. This place needs to grow up and take a good bath! The garden patio appears to cater to poor college students who hang around and don't even spring for a cup of coffee. I would not reccommend this place to anyone I know because it functions more like a high cost frat house than it does a classy hotel. IT HAS THE POTENTIAL!! They offer a jeep that takes you around within a small radius which is an EXCELLENT IDEA......well almost. Again, lots of potential! A LandRover or another kind of SUV would be much more adequate. The jeep was VERY DIFFICULT to get in and out of, especially when being dressed nicely for dinner. This place comes so close to being a lovely find...but it misses the mark. It is sad because it would only take a little effort, style, and class to make it a really GREAT place!
MoreAs always an excellent experience! The Restoration is our go to every visit to Charleston. LaSharia made it exceptional this time - friendly, funny and a smile everytime we walked thru the door!
MoreWe had a great experience at this hotel! From the minute we got here, Lasharia was very welcoming, and offered to keep our luggage while shopped and even brought it to our room for us. Overall was a great stay and will definitely be back.
MoreWhat a great experience couldn’t have asked for a better location and accommodations in a hotel. LaSharia was a particular bright spot. She always greeted us with a smile, made our daily outings better with great advice and great directions. Will definitely bebooking here again.
MoreWe had an absolutely wonderful stay at The Restoration in Charleston. The hotel is beautiful, thoughtfully designed, and has such a great atmosphere, but what truly made our experience exceptional was the hospitality. Matthew and AJ, in particular, went above and beyond and provided some of the best customer service we’ve ever experienced. They were incredibly welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made us feel taken care of throughout our stay. It’s rare to find that level of service, and they truly made our experience that much more special. Housekeeping was also fantastic, we received a handwritten note when our linens were refreshed which was such a nice touch. The only downside was our experience when retrieving our luggage upon departure. Lashara (spelling) directed us to use the service entrance and load our own bags onto a luggage cart, which felt unusual and out of place given the otherwise elevated level of hospitality throughout the hotel. It was an unexpected end to an otherwise fantastic stay.Overall, we can’t recommend The Restoration enough, and the exceptional service from Matthew, AJ and housekeeping made a lasting impression on us. We would absolutely stay here again.
