Formerly known as the Poughkeepsie Bridge, it is now transformed into the Walkway Over The Hudson State Historic Park. The pedestrian walkway bridge is most celebrated for the fact that it is the longest footbridge across the globe. The bridge was included in the National Register of Historic Places.

tripadvisorInitially, we had not planned to visit here, but my husband wanted to see the Hudson. I am so glad that we stopped and walked. It was a beautiful fall afternoon. There were lots of walkers, bikers, and dogs. Obviously, this is a well travelled spot for those who live in the area and are looking to exercise. There was plenty of room for all. We found benches about 2/3s of the way to Poughkeepsie and sat for awhile. There are lots of trails to take from this park, but we had a day of walking and just wanted the views. We highly recommend this walkway.
MoreWhat's not to love - gorgeous views, a nice distance for a walk and then lunch; bathrooms at either end; dogs allowed. I come here several times a year. The only thing I wish is that in the hot weather, they would put huge signs telling people that dogs are NOT allowed because the Walkway becomes so hot that the dogs will burn their paw pads. People who bring their dogs in the Summer/hot weather, should have to walk barefoot across the Walkway.
MoreIt was a really nice walk.(about3 miles to end and back) Extremely hot day but the breezes helped. Unfortunately, the elevator to water level was undergoing maintenance so not available. The views are stunning and would recommend this to all!
MoreGreat place to see wonderful views and exercise. You can walk Hudson river from easy to west. Bring comfortable shoes to enjoy.
MoreNice walk about a mile each way. Parked on the Poughkeepsie side - my GPS did not help much so followed the signs to get to the parking lot. Looked easier and in a safer neighborhood on the Highland side but we were heading up to FDR house so tried the Poughkeepsie side. Parking lot was under construction so it was very rocky. Facilities seem to be under construction but almost all complete. Clean restroom. Concrete slabs make for nice smooth walk. Information placards along the way provide info on points of interest and history of bridge. pet watering dish at each end. Nice respite from seeing all the museums, etc in the area. Check the weather - even on a nice day in the upper 70's the wind can blow enough to make you wish you had brought a wind breaker. Picnic benches on either end of the bridge.
