tripadvisorCST is my favorite theater in the greater Boston area. I have been a season subscriber for years and am always delighted with their productions (well, over a decade plus, there have been a few performances that were not so good, but it was very rare!). It's a very small black box style theater so they change up the seating a lot. Productions tend to be very intimate and creative, with a limited cast and flexible set. You are not getting a Broadway style production here but you get solid theater that elevates voices and emerging playwrights that you typically do not hear in more commercial theater, e.g. they have a women in science series that is my favorite. Because the theater is affiliated with MIT, they tend to run a lot of science focused plays. It is also one of the more affordable live theater options in Boston so I appreciate that!
MoreI actually go to the Central Square Theater at least 6 times a year as a subscriber. The productions are diverse, relevant, and of consistently high quality. One notable aspect you won't find elsewhere is the Catalyst Collaborative which is a collaboration with MIT to produce science based plays. This little theater is a gem.
MoreFound the extreme shouting and yelling to obscure hearing many lines and distract from what could have been a great production.
MoreWe thoroughly enjoyed this venue for a Bedlam production of Pygmalion. Attending based on a friend’s recommendation we have already planned our return. This Central Square Theatre offers professional plays at a very affordable rate. And there are so many wonderful restaurants and coffee houses around.
MoreWe saw the play Frankenstein today -- a really ingenious production of the 2011 play. Excellent performance of a brilliantly directed play. Comfortable intimate theater.
