We specifically planned a weekend in Allen just outside out Dallas (we're from San Antonio) so we could take advantage of the First Saturday educational program offered by this raptor center. We had a terrific time! The weather was beautiful, the setting is gorgeous -- a pond, a lake, wonderful short gravel walking trails with benches. Volunteers who have been at the center a long time manned various educational areas to teach us about prairie conservancy and aspects of different animals in the area. The 45-minute program in the amphitheater was outstanding! First was a lecture about raptors in general and the mission of the center. Then birds were brought out so we could learn about and admire them close up!! We saw a beautifully colored American kestrel, a black and white Mississippi kite, a tiny precious screech owl with tree-bark colored feathers, and a larger great horned owl. Each was walked by us within two feet! What a thrill. Following this wonderful program, we joined a Master Naturalist for a 30 minute guided walk on the trails. Our guide shared fascinating details about the prairie. We learned so much that morning! Tip: bring a hat, bottled water, and a seat cushion (the benches are open air and not padded). Please do support this worthy center.

Love the 1st Saturday programs. Went to the “meet the ambassadors” event followed by a guided hike. Learned so much about the area and lake.

This is a long time group with a great mission to save wildlife and educate the public. They go to many shows and events to help educate to general population on the plight of rare and endangered birds. We especially enjoyed the opportunity to be photographed with a bald eagle. Every American should do this and support them. What majestic birds they have and people are so dedicated. Highly recommended especially for families.

This conservation center is only open to the public on the first Saturday of every month. They parade the different raptors around the group and give an educational talk about each bird of prey. The volunteers are very experienced and well versed in their knowledge. I enjoyed seeing and hearing these beautiful animals and learning a lot about them. I loved the owls the best! Prepare to sit on a bench outside. You might need water, a hat and sunscreen. Hours are 10:00-2:00 and you can bring a picnic lunch. Great opportunity for unique photos.

Love Love Love this Center! We got to sit through a very fun educational presentation. We were told the background story of each raptor which was wonderful. We were taught what not to do when we encounter these beautiful creatures and we got an up close look at them as well. There are trails you can walk through and plenty of picnic tables for lunch. Beautiful lake front surroundings. One of my very favorite parts was touching real wings and talons!! Amazing experience for us!! All of the volunteers were friendly, patient, and very informed.
