tripadvisorI hosted a post-wedding brunch at the Roger Sherman Inn and it was everything I hoped it would be. The food was delicious, hot, and plentiful; it was refreshed often to assure guests who came later got a hot meal as well as those present at the start. The bacon and sausage deserve special note; really crisp, but not burned, and great smoky taste. All items in the buffet were delicious and presented nicely. The staff worked very hard to accommodate us. We had some unexpected guests (who hadn't RSVPd) show up, and the staff brought in more chairs and the kitchen scrambled, but the guests never noticed anything except hospitality and a good brunch. The room was also beautiful, looking out into the flower-filled garden. If you need to host an event, the Roger Sherman Inn should be on your list to check. I understand the Inn is under new ownership. This brunch was a sign of good times to come.
MoreThis is highly overpriced for a B and B. I was visiting for a Garden tour and thought I'd get a taste of the town. When I checked in, they tried to give me a shoe box of a bedroom and I rejected it, they gave me a larger room. (The place was nearly empty but for a woman and her large dog) Breakfast if NOT a real breakfast. Muffins were cold, it was continental. Yes, I was told it was going to be that but frozen muffins?) The coffee was barely drinkable. The towels smelled like they were over perfumed with detergent. The carpeting needed shampooing. If this is what New Caanan accepts, I wonder about the taste of the town. BTW- Cell service in New Caanan is horrid!!!
MoreTerrible experience. Cold food, slow, slow service. We went for brunch on a Sunday morning looking forward to the quiet bar room with a cozy fireplace. Instead we were seated next to two four top tables with unruly patrons. Waited and waited for service and our first cup of coffee. Our orders of eggs Benedict came out not only cold, but laughably one order came out with NO hollandaise sauce. Folks, just try and get your second cup of Joe. Good luck. A $ 60 dollar bill with no drinks. Never again.
MoreWe stayed at the Roger Sherman because family did not have enough room. We stayed in the cottages. We had a queen cottage, It was small, smelled moldy, cracked tile. Very old. It was clean but bathroom towels smelled of disinfect. This was rated a 4 star, it was not.
MoreDecrepit, sad, depressing, miserable. The guesthouse should be torn down and rebuilt. This place has not been touched since the 60's or whenever they built it. Dark with pitiful furnishings that look like they picked them up off the curb. Bathroom is horribly outdated and has zero surface to put your things on and one towel bar and one hook. The shutters are literally falling apart. There was a hole in the wall that someone had put some plaster in partially filling it but never finished the repair. No water in room except for purchase. Coffee and banana bread and yogurt available for breakfast.Do not stay here.
