I attended a comedy show in the Neon Room, which is a smaller venue at the club. The headliner was hilarious, and the openers were fairly good as well.HOWEVER, my advice specifically for the Neon Room is to ignore the email about arriving early because it does not help you. They seat people 30 minutes before the show in the Neon Room so that is all the earlier you need to be.I got there about 1 hour early and it was assumed I was there for the show in the big room, for which they could not find my ticket. Once I clarified who I had a ticket for, they sent me to wait in the Hawthorne Lounge which is a joke. It's a tiny backroom that looks like a bar, but it is not - it has all the personality of an airport baggage claim area. The staff are there to handle high volume drink orders for the servers working in other parts of the club. They completely ignore anyone sitting at the bar. Several people who were insistent enough got a drink. I don't care to beg so I left and went to another much nicer place in the neighborhood called Straightaway (awesome place, highly recommend).Your mileage may certainly vary if you are seeing a big name comedian in the main room, but my first experience at Helium Comedy Club with the Neon Room was definitely a learning experience. Good luck out there comedy fans!

I recently traveled to Portland over the weekend with a friend. She had never been to Portland before and I wanted to show her all the amazing things that make Portland such a fun place to visit. I decide to take her to see the Saturday night show -- Gavin Matts. When we arrived, early, I was surprised that the only option the host gave us for seating was a shared table or a table off to the side. We opted for the side table -- no big deal because the cute theater is so intimate and we could still see the stage. Fifteen minutes into the performance and I was regretting the choice. We could only see the stage if the performer was standing right at the front of it. The first comic totally did that. He was funny and I liked him. The next performer I couldn't see AT ALL. They stood back a little and was very hard to follow without the visuals of their body language and expressions.I was still hopeful at this point that the main act would stand at the front of the stage. The main act was a bust! We couldn't see anything because of the big wall obstructing the stage. It was like listening to an audio book of a comedy performance. I didn't even know where to look and just blindly stared out at the audience the entire time. :(The thing is, I'm sure that if we had the context of seeing his expressions and body language, I would have loved it and had fun. It was very disapointing. I wrote this in an email and sent it to Helium. When I followed up my email with another very courteous email a few weeks later after getting no response -- still no response. Very bad business, Helium! I will not go back or recommend this business.

Three comedians including the headliner. All were of low skill resorting to lewd sexual comedy versus skillful comedy. Expensive tickets and expect $25 pp add on to the show cost. Venue is fine, the show chosen not worth it.

My best friend and I had a blast! We loved the performers and the atmosphere! We got the chance to meet the stars of the show afterwards and they took time to introduce themselves and chat with us. What an awesome experience.

It's funny but unorganized. Tight squeeze. Had to sit at a table with people we didn't know. Prices a bit high.
