Come on, Redding! I've gone to this park off and on since the early 70's, and it's still beautiful, and they have added lots of new things to do there, and the pool and trails are top notch, but you have to watch your back and your automobile because the place is overrun with junkies. I wouldn't dare go there alone unfortunately. We sat in the car and watched lots of sketchy stuff going on near the bathrooms - lots of people going in there with other people (I'm taking sketchy business, not parents going in with their kids or something like that...)... Too bad because it's right on the river, has lots of amazing places you could have a picnic at if you weren't looking over your shoulder constantly. Seriously, I wish it was cleaned up because it's a gem of a place with amazing scenery, and great for family get-togethers, a day date, or just a place to take the kids. But the junkies are ruling it these days. This site asks if it's good for thrill seeking. Well, I guess it could be because it'll get your adrenaline up as you try not to get mugged.

Wonderful little gem just a bit above the Lower Sac, with slower water and big fish who act like they have never been hooked before. This was a wild and productive day for catching and releasing large Rainbows. I recommend a jet boat.

The city has really been trying hard to keep clean up the bum problems in this park. It has improved greatly in the past year. Unfortunately, with my last visit, the restrooms near the Jump-River play area were locked and porta-potties were provided. Needless to say, my 3 year old wasn't too excited to use a porta-pottie, so we had to cut our fun short to take her home to pee.

After California released all those career criminals, a number wandered to Redding. Be careful in the park as some hang out here. The pool is nice as a public pool. The skateboarding park & playgrounds are fine. Just be aware of those around you.

The park is gorgeous. The city has done a fabulous job at trying to get people and especially young children out and active. The junior bike skills park is AMAZING. However, the city has done an equally bad job of keeping the homeless away from this family park and seem to have given up completely. There are about 4 restrooms in this area that i am aware of and instead of letting them use one, they are all being used by homeless and therefore all unfit for children to use. In fact the city has put up signs to say not to let children use the facilities. What?? At the local restaurants i see the workers checking $10 bills for authenticity. It’s just a really big problem that will prevent me from ever recommending this beautiful city and this really cool bike park as a destination for anyone. If you are in the area, i would go, use it, but with caution. Don’t bring a picnic.
