The River Oaks Theatre is BACK and BETTER than ever! This venue is a dream come true. Houston finally has a true repertory house — showing first run arthouse alongside all genre classics. The artistic director does an outstanding job curating a variety of films to meet all tastes - he also introduces some of the films, providing great commentary! The staff is friendly and attentive. This is one of my absolute favorite places in Houston!

Tonight was the second time I have been to the theatre since it reopened. Both times I a have been to movies in one of the small sized upstairs theaters. Both times the noise from the bar has been very loud and very distracting. This evening one of the movie goers got up and asked the people at the bar to be quiet. That lasted for about 5 minutes. I also ordered some things off of the menu and the waitress failed to present any of us with our final bills. She had actually gone ahead and given herself a tip! They need to figure out a way to fix the noise issue. I live nearby and was a big fan of the theatre for years. I am not returning unless the movie I want to see is on the big screen. One would have thought Gladiator would have been. I had never even heard of the film on the big screen tonight!

Went to an afternoon show and was amazed by the beauty of this theater. It apparently has been renovated but still has the same beauty as a time gone by. Its luxury almost made me feel underdressed! Everything is clean, the seats are comfortable and the theater we attended was small with great sound and picture. The service was amazing. Formal dressed ushers, waiters and bartenders were available, knowledgeable and ready to make the experience an excellent outing. There is food and beverage service available from the seat with a push of a button and a great little table on the seat if needed. The food was very good and the menu had something for most customers. The programming, for instance Halloween, is thoughtful and looks like a great time. Again, in this time where there is no customer service, this theater has some really great, trained, enthusiastic and professional employees.

There is just something about an old theater. You actually feel like you are going out. It is not fancy or high tech. It simply shows a movie. Also, a polite crowd. Popcorn is good. Weekend make sure you have enough time to park. There is a nice garage across the street. This is the preferred place for my husband to see a movie.

The theater is in good condition considering it's 80 years old.. but still ... it's 80 years old. The redeeming factor is that it shows movies outside mainstream such as Must-See 'The Irishman'.
