In the heart of downtown, lies the Penn Valley Park, a park that was carved out of an urban setting of houses and buildings in an attempt to try and retain the land's history as an historic ravine. This ravine, known as the 'Penn Street ravine', a part of the route which was used by the pioneers to traverse west on the land, via the Santa Fe Trail. The park was completed in the early 1900s, and today occupies a prime position in the city's landscape. Among the amenities available here are a dog park, a skate park, tennis courts, picnic areas, softball fields, and the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial. Do call to know more.

tripadvisorWalk to the WWII memorial plaza for wonderful views of downtown Kansas City. Dog friendly with a nice dog park with water fountain.
MoreNice area to walk, not too far from a dog park too if you want to go off leash. We didn't find the area at all objectionable.
MoreDrove to The Scout statue. The statue itself is very detailed and well crafted. That spot has a great view of downtown. The area is heavy with litter and broken glass. It’s sad to see such a nice spot be disrespected by people and under-cared by the city.
MoreThe view of Kansas City is great! It's not super handicap friendly, and my elderly father was with us. After driving up a hill, you have to park by a skate park, and walk to get to the monument on top of the hill. There were some skeptical looking characters around. There was a guy that ran his truck past the barricade and got stuck. There was a couple making out in their car. It's a great view of the city, but I'd recommend going in the daytime, and not alone.
