MoreMy friends and I were on a vacation to Santa Barbara and thought this looked like a cute place to give our feet a rest. Nobody there spoke any English whatsoever so we pointed to the menu that we wanted 40 min foot massages. We all had makeup/hair done for dinner afterwards. The first thing they did after taking us into a big open room with several beds was smear oil all over our faces and in our hair and spent about 20 minutes massaging our face, head and neck area when we had all asked for a *foot* massage. To our horror, about 10 minutes into the massage, they threw a cloth over our faces so we couldn't see, but we heard a customer come in and went into one of the little side rooms with a curtain. Soon there was a man panting, then a woman panting, LOTS of panting we had to listen to for about 20 minutes. I could swear I heard the rip of a condom being opened. Lots of oh wows and you're so awesome between panting from the man. We all agreed afterwards that someone had come for something other than a massage. It was soooo gross. Oh and the foot massage part they finally did was no good for any of us. It could be though that we were so disgusted by what we were listening to in the background.
Moreit's a great place to just drop in, someone always seems to be available. I visited the one in Solvang, what a cute little town.
MoreOn July 17 I requested a 1-hour foot massage. The young lady not only didn't know how to massage feet, she seemed totally bored...after the first 3 yawns I started counting...and there were 12 more yawns. I was able to peek under the mask that they put on me, and she was looking up at the ceiling, down the hallway, over to her friend to talk, out the door, in short everywhere but my feet and legs! She just lightly stroked my feet and legs (without looking), no massage to speak of. She picked at my callouses with her nails, which was embarrassing and painful. She did some brief and light reflexology, but mostly it was light touching. The only time she perked up was when she told me enthusiastically that my time was up. She hastened to hand me my stuff and sit me up. Of course she really perked up as she escorted me to pay and smiled hungrily for a tip. Also, during my full price massage, an Indian couple came in to schedule a 1 hour massage for 2. After a fashion, the man asked for a discount. The man in charge said that the public price would be as listed, but that they could do some extra work on the couple. This seemed really racist, ageist, and unfair. My skin is white, and I am almost 60. Should I receive less time for my massage than younger Asian clients whose skin tone matches the proprietors'? For that matter, did they stick the ol' white lady from out of town with someone who wasn't really trained in massage?
MoreMy mother, sister and I enjoyed our 60 minute combo massage. It was much more reflexology that places I frequent in Los Angeles, which was a nice change. It was a small place and relaxing. I would return.
