Don't leave San Francisco without a stroll through this legendary square near Fisherman's Wharf, which is named after San Francisco's original chocolate-maker. There is a bakery and several restaurants and, of course, there's the Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shop where you can savor the deliciousness of the old-fashioned Ghirardelli sundae or buy some sweet goodies to bring back. Take some time and visit the art galleries, gift and specialty stores, and shoe and clothing shops.

tripadvisorA tidy area of interesting buildings shops and restaurants. A more quite and sedate area for a stroll rather than some of the bustling areas of the city. A good place for a stroll of 30 minutes or so. You can get to it by Cable car.
MoreThe Ghirardelli Square is a nice place for chocolate lovers to experience the verious Ghirardelli flavours, from chocolates to shakes and ice creams, they have the full range.
MoreI don't actually eat chocolate but visited while in the area and enjoyed the time. Picked up gifts and had a good wander around the shops. Restrooms available also.
MoreOverpriced, average tasting ice cream sundae…
MoreIn the red brick building, there is a smaller Ghirardelli store and a bigger one that sells the sundaes, drinks, and has a bigger gift shop. We got the World Famous Hot Fudge Sundae - $17.50 / 970 calories and shared it. Definitely sharable! There were a few tables with a great view of the bay and if you are lucky - brave people swimming in the cold water. Besides smaller gift sets, there are three main ways to buy bulk Ghirardelli candy although expect to pay more for the privilege of buying it in their store. They have 1 pound and 2 lb bags of their Signature (raspberry, caramel, 60% dark chocolate, mint) and Dark Chocolate, and may be others but those are what I got. The Dubai chocolate is more expensive. They also sell 1/2 pound for $20 of flavors you can pick, except Dubai, which is more expensive, but you can pick the flavors you want - I highly recommend the lava and mint chocolate.
