Robert Rauschenberg is sometimes considered as the progenitor of the early 60's Pop-Art Movement due to his work created in the 1950's. Here on the campus of Florida SouthWestern State College in the suburb of Cypress Lake, this gallery features all aspects of Rauschenberg's art, from sculpture and photos to paintings and mixed-media. The gallery also presents rotating exhibits from different artists throughout the year as well as posthumously highlighting everything Rauschenberg.

tripadvisorWe've stopped by this gallery a number of times when we have been on the FSW college campus, but have rarely found a really stimulating exhibit. Some modern art lovers may find hidden treasures there, but we're not among them.
MoreI dropped into the gallery while on my way to an author's group meeting in the college. The docents were very friendly and the exhibit was uncrowded so we could spend our time looking it over. The entrance fee is free, but donations are welcome. The display changes every couple months, I guess. The last time I was there the exhibit was by Yoko Ono and it was dumb. This time it was an artist who paints in very bright colors which filled the room with life. Another time it was collages, which I love. This is a great way to experience art without a lot of effort or expense.
MoreRauschenberg lived and worked in Captiva for many years. The gallery is dedicated to this artist. It is a relatively small gallery, however, it does have wonderful exhibits. Yoko Ono had her work exhibited here as well as James Franco. It is next to the Barbara B. Mann performance center. Plenty of parking.
MoreGreat docents, good shows, not enough shows with quality work.In days of yore wonderful openings and interesting people. Not enough can be said about Bob. He put Ft. Myers and its art on the map. However that being said still good enough to visit.
MoreThe Gallery is located right off the entry circle for the Barbara B. Mann Hall. The large space hosts changing exhibits drawn from a variety of stimulating and provocative artists of renown. I haven't attended one exhibit in the last 6 years that hasn't challenged my senses and my mind. Simple in first appearance as Warhol and as everlastingly beguiling as Pollack, the exhibits have displayed Yoko Ono's objective tributes to love and peace, Rauschenberg's screenwork from China, Florida artists' visual representations of the state's natural environment and many more. FSW students, especially, benefit from the presence of the Gallery on campus. The Gallery is free and open to the public most days of the week.
